Thanks Ace
ok heres what i did on the NG steering ...same kinda thing i have been doing right after i took the pics one cable broke so i used some steel fishing leader with black plastic coating on it ...it works ok ,i used a dave brown air line restrictor to slow the gear down ...which is nice but causes the ng to not lock .if you wiggle the rudder the gear locks in .so that is how im doing it . the slower retacting gear looks very scale . i know JHH sells the restrictors .not sure if EJF has them . maybe Robert can pipe in and let you know. this took longer than the rest of the plane so plan on a bit of work to get it right. i also had to glue in my retact valve...and after that the valve started leaking ...so i lube it with some vasilene and it sealed up .i think th kicker for the ca csused it ,so use 5min epoxy to hold the valve .i wish they had a piece that had a hole in it to secure the valve . the "U" shaped bracket needs glue to help hold it.i also used silicon to lock the nose gear wire set screw . i know it will break sooner or later and i want to be able to remove it to installa larger wire. ok i had a out of balance fan ...so i removed the rotor and ran the motor ,it was still buzzing ,so i took off the rotor adaptor.ran it again still a little buzz. so i pulled the fan out of the plane, took the motor out, pulled the bell rearward untill it was free floating and found a heavy spot .so i added some thick CA to the light side of the bell(inbetween the maganets) .put the motor back together and ran it .it was smoother. i balance the rotor it had a heavy spot too ,played around rotating the rotor untill i found the sweet spot. put the spinner back on and it was smooth from low to high power and also at half power . so i got it all back together .i just need to glue on all the tail, and stabs. yeah it was a hassle to do all the work but im glad i did . i recommend all outrunners be balanced.this is not the first time i've sen them be off .it took 4 drops of thick CA to balance it . i can report that the motor looked well made the winding were nice, and it had a bigger bering on the front ,the shaft is 4mm and it has flats ground on the shaft for set screws. the shaft is @3 mm at the rear where it is a press fit into the bell with a set screw to hold it .the fan looks like a sapac fan with a nice alum spinner.there is a hole in the shroud in case you need to remove the rotor adaptor.you just put the allen wrench through the hole and loosen the set screws.

Looking good Rodger!
I am flying mine with the CG near the aft end of the recommended range. It flies nicely there IMO. Who's doing the maiden? You or Brent? If the latter, don't forget the fire extinguisher! Just messin' with you guys a little... I know you'll do great with it and THEN the upgrades and fun will REALLY start! |

i used a 3200 xps the weaker one .might need to add some weight for a 2350.guess i need some more 3200's i dont think a 5000 will fit ,untill i make the duct and nose. does anyone know the kv of this motor?it has to be around 3000kv looks to be the same size as a old blue sapac motor.but those do 700-800 watts . we'll see how this flies then add the HEt and Dons BI3600 motor,900 watts
if i can get a pass i'll fly it maybe on wed. |

is that the kv or the size . i think it is a 28mm dia by 36mm long ???. any way it's a good little motor. i like the whole thing really . the only real issue i had was the retract valve ,it should be about .003-.005 " tighter fit .i charged mine with air last night and this morning it still had pressure. the stock hose has been working just fine sofar. what i really like about the kit is the custom made "Y" harnesses for the alierons and flaps. it's just plug and play.
so the only mods C/N and i will do are 1) new fiber glass nose (more scale sized) 2)a fiberglass inlet duct 3) maybe a tail cone so we can use a 2.1" tail pipe.and it will only be @.020-.030 thick fiber glass so we can make the whole fuse @1/2" smaller in dia. back there 4) a more scale canopy from what i can figure this plane is 1:11 scale or 1:10 ...if it were 1:12 it would have a 37" wingspan so it's got 43" wings so it is bigger than 1:12. oh and im going to make a scale NG fork too. |
