How to turn your + mode quad into X

If there is no native "X" mode by software on you quad, to transform it from "+" mode to "X" mode, you just need to use "delta mix" (or "elevons" on Futaba) on your radio, or a delta mixer such as this one if your radio doesn't have delta mix.
It is as simple as that, that's all you need to do, no change at all has to be made on the quad, everything stays the same as for + (flight controller orientation and so on).

Of course, having delta mixed X mode requires that your quad was tested and flying in + mode prior to switching to X mode

Hope this helps,
Bob

I fly both of my quads with the "X" configuration, just as Bob suggested, and it works flawlessly for me. give it a try!

What are the pros and cons of X mode vs + mode?
is one more stable or maneuverable?

+ has prop in center view
X has parts of prob on the sides

+ has a leg "dragging" in the way, X doesn't.
X flies more like an aircraft I feel, I find it smoother and sharper at the same time, but that's merely my own feeling.
I personally went to X one day last year and never went back to +

Now, the best way is to try for yourself, don't you think?

Bob, would you have a diagram of the wiring?

Thank you.

what wiring? Nothing changes on the quad.
Then, if you're talking about the delta mix module, you just connect ail to ail and ele to ele from flight controler to module and from module to RX.
The module is in fact just between the RX and FC and mixes the signal 50/50 like the radio mix would do, that's all.

Okey

As always I got my questions hihi!

Im going to fly in "x" mode and wondering what direction will be the front?

I made a picture from some info I found on the fist side of this forum.

Could some one just tell me out from my picture what color dot that will face the front of the quad in "x" mode?

I hope the picture is right and easy to understand And maby help others

I just hold the transmitter rotated 45 clockwise.

Sorry, just couldn't resit :P

Isn't the delta mix a problem if the board expects some specific positions for calibration, engines start / stop etc?

regards

front is red, between front arm and right arm.
Always do a test holding the quad over your head before flying every tiume you experiment something new, it doesn't hurt to make sure all is fine before getting airborne.
Pre-check is something you must do anyway, don't forget

no, no change at all, unless you need cyclic for calibration (MK?), then it could be a problem.
But since MK has software X mode, just use it

Since Bob gave such simple and clear instructions I just had to give x mode a try. Just for the record my + mode quad rotated 45 degrees CW and made the green dot quadrant the forward without doing anything but turning on elevon mix on spektrum tx .

^not the same flight controller as pic'd above^

Would you have a QuadPowered by any chance?
I'm asking this question because from what I recall, George being left handed has done sone 'unconventionnal' things with the code.
But this could be the Spektrum as well...
Please feedback so I can update the instructions here.
