I was flying a little too low and suffered from a 'dumb thumbs' attack, which resulted in the crash of my 3DHS VR-1! I didn't know if I would repair the airframe, so I let it set for a month. Well after a month I decided to start the repair!

First I need to survey the damage:

Now its time to remove the damaged motorbox. 3DHS Hobby Shop designs their airplanes with this process in mind. The motorbox is easy to remove and replace, plus they sell a replace motorbox kit! It really make this process easy!

I didn't document the process for all the motorbox pieces, but the process is the same.

On the the pics!

Now that the motorbox has been removed its time to repair the fuselage damage.

The repair process is pretty straight forward; align the broken parts and apply thin CA. I also applied some carbon fiber strips in places to reinforce the repair.

During the crash of my VR-1, not only was there damage to the motorbox and fuselage, but the covering was ripped in a few places. 3DHS includes a covering repair kit with the VR-1 that include every color used on the airplane. Nice touch!

I had broken my landing gear on the VR-1 in a previous 'bad landing' incident and conducted a field repair using Popsicle sticks and cable ties! This repair worked for many flights, but didn't survive the last crash!

I decided to repair the LG using CF strips and "Spider Wire" fishing line. Carbon tow or Kevlar thread would be better, but I was using what I had on hand.

I've got some 80lb Spiderwire I was thinking of using for pull-pull cables?

Rob, depending on the size of the airplane, 80lb Spiderwire should work fine for a pull-pull. The stuff doesn't stretch.

Can you expand on "depending on the size of the airplane"? Would you only use to a certain size plane?

Hmm, I'm no expert and don't want to get myself in trouble suggesting something that wouldn't work well!

I my humble personal opinion I would think 80lb SpiderWire would be safe on a 70" airframe. Much bigger than that I would use wire.

You could also send a PM to numbskull and jclarke, they have LOTS more experience with GS planes than I do.
