Biulding with isoboard

HI
Anyone around building planes from isoboard? Is there any diferance between this and depron? I am using polystirene glue instead of UHU POR. Any tips available?

You can use Isoboard the same way as polystyrene or cut it to thin sheets like depron. You can also use epoxy or white wood glue very effective.

Isoboard is way more flexible than Depron of the same thickness. Use a stiff carbon spar in your wing.

POR is the best glue by far. If you cannot get it where you live let me know then we can sort something out.

Hi
I've tested the polystirene glue an it works just as good as the UHU POR

Hi Jab

I got Damian from Maiden-wings here in PE to cut me an isoboard wing for a small discus launch glider. I re-inforced it with a carbon spar and sheeted it with 1mm balsa.

I am no expert when it comes to foam, but isoboard seems very similar to the high desity foam, aka spider board.

By the looks of it, it should work as a substitute for depron and people are selling 5mm isoboard. The only thing that wories me is that the isoboard seems far more brittle than depron.

Would be nice to get some feedback from someone that has actually used isoboard as a depron substitute.

I've used both in 2mm and 3mm thicknesses for indoor planes. For that size isoboard is rather useless. I've had someone cnc cut me some slow-flyer undercambered wing cores that is about 8-10mm thick. I haven't used them yet but at that thickness they don't bend much, so should work okay.

Like snarf said it works great for cutting wing cores that will be covered. But then again you can just use high density EPS which should be much cheaper.

Jab, what plane are you building?

Hi

Ive built a 80cm wingspan stick completely out of isoboard and it is flying perfect. I cut out the sticks wings with a hot wire and cut the isoboard into 7mm sheets. Cut the fuselage sides, top/bottom ,rudder and elevator all out of this.Glued it all together with epoxy. I took 4 icecream sticks and glued it to the inside from the nose till under the wing to reinforce it.I cut a 10mm piece of isoboard for the firewall onto which I glued a piece of plywood for the motor.

Hi MegaTesla

It is a 1m DLG with an AG03 Airfoil and based on Fransbal's Mimi. Have look in the DLG forums. The only problem is that the AUW should be around 140g, but my wing alone weighs in at 90g, but there are Mimi's flying that weighs in at 200g.
