Walkera V120D02 - Pics & Flight Review **REVISED**

I have decided to revise my initial review since there have been improvments made to this heli and some people might get the wrong idea by just reading the first page of this thread. The latest version of this heli is really good. Walkera has fixed the throttle problems and the self stabilization issues apparent in the first version I got to test. The little mix arms are still a problem. But there are now upgrades/mods available to eliminate those arms altogether which is the best solution I have found.

Paired with the new 915 motor on 14t, this heli is a rocket. Fully 3D capable and a blast to fly. Here is a vid of my V120D02 being flown by Manny to show what she can do.

thanks for the review Darryl.
Little mechanical issues, ok.... but the RX thing doesnt sound good. Also the phasing issues is not really cool...
Did you try to change the gyro pot settings on the RX?

Addicted - seeking help!
So I've been holding off on upgrading my g6 to a g6s in hopes that this new receiver would be better (at least with 2801 mode). If I'm following correctly Darryl, it sounds like the programming in it is a step backwards.

Hey Rob. Nice work on the canopies BTW. Anyway, I have already tried every combination of gyro pots and delay all the way from + to - and still there are issues. The more delay you add, the more it moves after your stick input. Whoa. The less Ail, Pit and Ele gain you put in the harder it becomes to fly. Also it picks up a bigger TB effect than it already has. I tried all combos of each and I have it just about as good as its going to get it appears. And still, there is a mild TBE outdoors (there is none indoors nor when the HS is @ 4000rpm or less) and a feeling of "flying on the edge of crashing" with right banked turns. I just don't know about this one. I may try using shorter links on the grips to get the swash and mains more in sync and that might solve the right turn issue. But I think that might add to the TBE.

After looking at the correction action of the Rx, I noticed that the throw of the swash is significantly greater than the 2610S Rx. It may be that the firmware has turned up the stabilization so much that no it cannot get out of its own way.

Oh well, the work continues to find a solution for some of this stuff.

shorter links on the bladegrips is what I thought too. change the geometry and get along with smaller servo throws for the same pitch, might also take care of the swash binding. The mechanical stuff is nothing that cant be fixed...

I really like the design of the new head, looks like its very strong compared to the flybared one - almost no more bend heads I guess.

but the rx and its firmware is crucial... walkera never showed the actuall rolling/fliping in the promo vids for the V120D02 from what I saw... I though this was odd...

So if the is a beginners CP. How would it compare to the, 4g6, 4g6s, or the dk 4G6s fbl, 4f200 or Blade SR for being stable and easy to fly. 3D is not for me at this time I want a indoor CP trainer for the Canadian winters.

That sucks, this was meant to be the one, why do they keep doing this sorta stuff? Walkera all you need to do is change a few things and you would have an even bigger market.

My you have been busy Darryl,
That's alot of testing! Sweet job even if the results were not what we were hoping.

How much larger are the new tail blades? They are reportedly larger than the 4G6, 4g6s etc.

Any chance of a comparison pic?

I had to reduce the pitch of my 2s just a fraction as full limit on the gyro (2100T) with suitable ball distance (3mm) hold better this way. Motor can sustain more pitch without bogging but the tail currently has maybe 10% margin. Thinking laregr tail blades may help.

The geometry on the 4g6 tail is not that flash. Decent, but not all it could be.

How about using the 4G6S RX? I bet the 2610s would fix everything.

Please excuse the dumb-a@@ newbie question, but does this reflect badly on the V120D01 also??

I only have my personal experience, and the posts of others on this forum, to reference, but the V120D01 is a great heli. I have 6 Walkera helis and it is by far my favorite to fly. So I wouldn't take the bad review of the V120D02 as any reflection on the V120D01.
