So while the numbers don't look good once the airframe is complete you guys can step back and adjust what you need to get the job done

Magnaflux,
The trainer version was dropped and the last images I saw, I think, were from the 98 Paris Airshow. They had a revised pole model of a single seat fighter. The Western observers called it the Viperiski (F-16 wanabe). This is a subject that I wanted to model but I don't have enough views. It is an awesome looking model I will see if I can find the mag and post a pic.
If it proves necessary, we would only have to decide how MUCH money! Upgrading this model will be a lot easier than the B-57 was; we had to go back and make new molds, then fit the newly sized nacelles to an existing model.

Did you read how the display model of the upgraded S-55 was stolen a couple of days into the 1997 Le Bourget presentation? What a bummer!

Daren,

Yes you are most correct. It would be a matter of how much

I hadn't heard about the stolen model but Boeing had the same problem with the wind tunnel F/A-18 Superhornet model Some guys just love aviation too much.

Here is the version of the S-55 in my mag.

Ohhhhhhhh those are soooooooo coooooool.
As far as the power system goes, I recall Mr Cox here jamming a 500 or 550 motor into a MiniFan 480 and getting 300 watts out of a brushed setup??????

Oh and Kevin, give back that wind tunnel F-18, we all know it was you, or is that the one Plane Crazy is flying .

Kevin,
That is very different looking than the two seater. I found this picture which is a different view.

I've been looking at the S-55 for a long time. I worked out the control scheme arrangement though, full canard and full flying taileron control on two servos, with flaps and slats on another servo. As with most things, though, I never got around to it. When I get through the construction stack that I've built up, though, I think this will be one of the first designs to get a serious look.

What do the intakes look like? Are they different than the S-54's?

Daren,

S-54 intakes were initially set up like an F-16: single chin duct. The S-55 is more like an F-18E/F up front... same chines leading into the wing with angled rectangular intakes below with canards, very similar to the front end of the S-37 or whatever the current designation for the Berkut is (aside from intake geometry).

They're coming along.

I've got the base coat of monokote, including the candy stripes, on mine and will be starting on the camo paint portion tomorrow night. After that, it's detail painting of the canopy nosecone and tailcones, then it's time to make up the decals, then finally bolting the components in.

Daren's about done with his base coat, too. He doesn't have do any real painting except the nose cone, tail cones and canopy frames.

We are trying to get them finished in time for the Nov. meet at Sepulveda Basin. Because it's taken a bit longer to build than we anticipated, it came down to a choice between adding the finish, or taxi-testing. We decided to make them pretty. If there's time, we will press on with taxi-tests before the meet. If not, they'll be on static display and we'll have just have to fly the B-57; oh darn!

If you want to see them in flight, for the moment, check out our avatars.
