Thanks Rich. If you fly em, you crash em, and this was my own fault completely. I had did up the mods on a the OLD wing that I had repaired with Hot Glue after tearing it in half on a light post. It was supposed to be simply PROOF OF CONCEPT and then once I knew if the dual ailerons and the re-paint worked, get a whole new airframe and start over from scratch ... Should NOT have been pulling loops with it, in quite cold weather, as that was asking for the "fix" to break in mid-air. Lucky to salvage ANYTHING from that one. I HOPE the motor is ok. If it and the ESC are ok, I might just order a new AIR FRAME ONLY, if they still sell them at HH. Pick up a new AR500, do the rudder and dual aileron mod, with CF spar and cloth cover, as per Ian's bird right away, then a full re-paint. Then you've got a whole new bird.
If the motor is shot, may still do it, just order a new one and new prop. If the ESC is gone as well, it's getting pricy ... might just wait to see if HH comes out with a NEW SPITFIRE this spring. (Fingers crossed.) I can't see going past about mid-summer without some sort of spitfire in my hanger. May have to go with a bigger one, with re-tracts, etc., but I sure will miss my first ever warbird! Will let you know if I hear anything from Ian on his experiments with alternatives to the Poly-C! Take care ... and the Spitfire may yet fly again ... well at least "A" Spitfire! Marlin |

Hobby King has a really nice looking Spitty that's a meter long and 1.5 meter wingspan, with retracts. not bad either at 120 bucks. I may look at this one myself.

Looking around the Parkzone site and called HH today ... they have discontinued the Airframe Replacement, Painted airframe and Wing replacement parts and have NONE in stock! There was a SLIP on the Parkzone Warbirds site a bit ago when an employee referenced the "new BL Spitfire" that was coming up. Caused a small firestorm of speculation, with many denials that a SPITFIRE was being planned, saying it was a mistake and was supposed to be a reference to the new P-47 ...
After many pages the HH folks stated something to the effect that OF COURSE they will be coming out with an updated Spitfire "someday" as the original has sold SOOO strong, but just not sure when. MY GUESS is that they are thinking this spring or summer to release it, but want to let the P-47 get a GOOD RUN. It's the first one with the Retract / Flap ready setup we have been telling them to go with. It's a popular airframe, but not as much so as the P-51 and Spitfire. From a marketing perspective it makes sense to go P-51 BL 4 channel, simple, will sell a ton, updates a classic. Then P-47 with all the upgrades we are looking for, 2nd wave of good sales, then Spitfire with all the upgrades AGAIN, but in a more popular airframe, 3rd wave of good sales. Loads of folks would not bother with the P-47 if the Spitfire was coming soon, but will get it now as it's the FIRST with to be Retract/Flap ready and everyone has been begging for that in the Parkzone line. I might hold off till summer, see what happens. Then again, if I can find a good Spitfire wing and fuseage I will almost assuredly be re-building this one, I just LOVE the way if flew. (Right up to the point it became a lawn dart!) Will look at the HK one though Rich, sounds interesting ... Marlin |

like I said, a guy on the RCCanada classifieds is selling the wing and tailplane. I believe he's in Milton, ON. would be a good start with a fresh wing and tail.
I also saw a batch of Spitty parts on ebay. it was a bunch of fuselages and other odds and ends. some were damaged and others weren't. might be worth checking into, if they haven't gone already. |

I do appreciate all the great complements you have gevin me about my spitfire mods/paint job and i'm looking forward to doing the P-51 after xmas too as i've had a paint scheme in mind for quite some time now but i'm not giving any details out on that one apart from she WILL be done in Poly-C |

I think you will find that what makes it adhere to wood so good is a small amount of white wood glue (i heard it was watered down a touch too) added to the polyurethane But good luck with your experiments as i've only done a couple but will be doing a lot more playing about with Poly-C and varnish + white wood glue to see what is the best mix i can come up with but that won't be until the new year as i'm a bit busy,oh the joys modelling but there isn't enough hours in the day some times |

Oh one more thing just make sure you test the mix with some scrap foam but make sure it's the same sort of foam you want to use the mix on as different foams can tolerate different glues/varnish Wish i could say more but as this was my first ever use of glassfibre cloth and Poly-C i can't but i do hope this will help you out in some way |

thanks for the info. I'll find a solution for sure. I like your idea of the varnish and white glue, so I'll look into that.
