15 channel VTX testing and Verification

Special thanks to Durtbag for loaning me his 15 channel VTx. This video displays the channels and the power output. All testing was done at 12VDC.

The bad thing about this unit is that it loses frequency lock at 8.75V

15 channel 1.2GHz VTX Testing and verification for FPV (2 min 34 sec)

1 question: does it loose power during voltage decrease?

Link to the Vtx?

Is this: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=13435 the same unit as the sunsky unit? Can I select 1280MHz frequency? Does it perform as good as the sunsky if it is not the same.

Flying low is expensive.

Well as the voltage drops, the wattage would drop as well assuming the amps don't increase.

Alex, that was a wonderful test, I've been using the exact same VTx and was never really sure what channel was 1280. Its kind of a shame that the lower channels (1-3) put out more power than channel F does. Oh well.

No it isn't. Notice the wire leads and where they come out of on the HK one.

If you are happy with the performances of 5.8, go with it (good picture, small antennas, lightweight but expensive and not for medium to long range.)

Otherwise it depends on your 2.4Ghz if it s a Frsky then go for 1.2

If you have a cheap HK v1 Tx you better directly buy a filter but even with that you won't go over 1km so be careful.

Well it s a bit better but even a Futaba Fasst has problems over 1km

Thing is with 2.4 stock you will wonder "when will my RC link go into failsafe?". If you stick to it then a cheap way to increase your range is the filter + Windsurf antenna from freeantennas. And then go for a booster if needed but watch out for LOS.

The size of your plane matters also, if it s big you can have distance between Vtx and RC.

I use Fox-800 (on 1280) and a Graupner MX-12 RC Tx that i have modified to 2.4GHz with a Corona V2 DSSS module and all that on a SlowStick with EZ* wing.
So far i have been 1Km out at a height of not more than 200m and no glitch or anything from both RC and Video.

with a fox 800 and the stock config on 1280Mhz you can expect 4km of usable vid.

So your RC will be the weak link. Buy an autopilot and you will fly without any fear.
