Maybe this weekend will be different. But that's why I built all of the FPV stuff into a spare canopy. So I just remove the camera and put the new canopy on and it's a normal Extra 300 again. I'll let you know if I get anywhere. Steve |

I fly mostly off grass so I run 3" wheels on just about everything. They do make a big difference.
Couple more flights on my Extra tonight. It's been windy here lately and this is my best wind plane. Wolfe |

Glad you guys are doing good with the 3" wheels on grass. I still can't do it unless the ground is smooth as a putting green. Maybe I should try the 8" wheels off the front of my lawn mower?
On a more serious note very windy yesterday and moderately windy today, but still managed to get in 7 flights. I agree the Extra, once in the air, handles the wind as well as anything else in my hanger. It is while on the ground that the wind kills it. Had a gust yesterday flip mine over while I was getting a fresh battery. If it is blowing hard I don't even try to taxi back to me. I cut the power and carry it back. This may be the one area that my winglets don't help out. |

O/T... I've just picked up a second hand ParkZone extra 300 sports bird. The interesting thing I've realized is that apparently the motor in this PZ Extra300 is the motor is the same as my stock PZ P47, also runs a 2 blade prop. Really interesting thing is my PZ BF109 runs a 3 blade prop with a lower KV... stock... P47: - 15-size 950Kv BL Outrunner - 9.5 x 7.5 x 2 standard prop - I run an Aeronaut 10 x 8 power prop, and this prop slightly over-amps the stock esc, even in flight Extra300: - 15-size 950Kv BL outrunner - 10.5 x 9 x 2 standard prop, I am yet to measure the amp draw but I'll bet my left proverbial it will be way over 30 amps I know it will because I tried a 10.5 x 8 x 2 prop in my PZ P47 and even that was drawing way over 30 amps BF109: - 15-size 720Kv BL - 10.6 x 7.8 x 3 blade standard prop But in the PZ BF109 manual it states that there is a 2 blade spinner conversion available, and to run a 12 x 12 x 2 prop on this motor! I am very tempted to swap out the BF109 motor with the Extra300 motor & try a 12 x 8 x 2 APC straight up in the Extra I'll fly the Extra on the standard motor/prop first to get a feel for it in the air stock, but I will be ever so tempted to put the BF109 720kv motor in this Extra I'll be watching the amp draw stepping up on prop size because I think PZ seem to prefer to overload their stock 30 amp esc rather than step up to a 40 amp esc, which is a pity because they put out such reliable planes otherwise Perhaps this has already been mentioned elsewhere, I'm not about to read through a pile of posts lol so if this has already been mentioned, consider this as a double post out of pathetic laziness Cheers! |

that aside, would it be worth putting the lower kv motor in the Extra? |

Finally broke down and ordered the following motor for my Extra http://www.valuehobby.com/power-syst...42-1000kv.html Also found a video on shaft replacement, only problem with that is I can get only 2 of the 3 set screws out of the 3 motors I have laying around. I have stupidly managed to strip out 1 of the 3 on every motor, not the same one every time though. Need to get a high quality 1.5 mm allen driver and try again on the current motor when the G-Force arrives and works. That way all I need is a replacement shaft or 2 to get my rebuilt original Extra flying again and have a spare stock motor for use in either Extra.

well i flew my extra with the tacon big foot 15 for the first time tonight. it did great. didn't even have to adjust trims. Unfortunatly I was doing a beautiful KE spin and let it fall to long and couldnt recover in time and nosed into the ground and broke my extra into several pieces. epoxy and hot glue were to the rescue but I bent my prop shaft that came with the tocon big foot and I'm not sure where to find a replacement. On the good side of things the tacon bigfoot took a throttled up hit to the ground and it didn't get damaged at all other than the shaft. well over 200 flights without out incident and now the last 2 have gone all wrong.

Ouch Dave! Yours broke right behind the wings in the same place mine did in my big crash. I have cracked my firewall but never knocked it all the way off.

Marc,
A excellent hex wrench is the Dynamite brand from Horizon. Very high quality. Hex end are replaceable if they get worn. Red handle is what I got |

Due to the high winds and high temperatures today, I have been forced to stay inside and do some maintenance on my planes. A nice 37 degrees C or 98 F, with winds of 50kph or 31mph means no flight is even considered today.
The Extra had some repairs/Modifications of: New Landing gear Fairings. Gluing of wing tips back on. General wiring re-seating. New Propeller and Spinner modifications (Xoar 12x6) Turnigy Sentry 40A ESC. I have to say I'm digging its new looks with the beechwood 12x6. Now I can't wait to get out and try the sucker. |
