Thanks
it's heat activated laminating film. you can find it at most office supply stores by the roll it's used to laminate paper/ pictures/ Id's etc.
I'm not sure exactly what brand he uses but here is a link to some it can range any where from $30 per roll to $80 depending on brand

Finding coloured laminate of the same thickness/grade to that which Ritewing supply to date I believe has been impossible.

It's not rocket science. If you want a light weight colored laminate, use Ultracote, if you want a heavy-duty colored laminate use Monokote. Those products have been around strengthening wings for decades. If you're in Europe, it's Oracover. There are dozens of brands. So long as you use large sheets that go from wing tip to center, and overlap in the center, you'll get similar strength from them as you would laminate. There aren't any super thick colored laminates like the 10 mil, at least that I'm aware of, but I don't believe Ritewing ships with that standard anyway.

You will hear laminate quoted in mil and microns, people assume mil is an abbreviation of millimetre this is not the case.

1mil = 0.001" basically its the correct way of saying 1 thousandth of an inch. At work we say 1 thou, but its actually 1mil.

1micron is a metric measurement. so 1 micron = 0.001mm thats millimetre not mil and can be written mm

Simples I have seen it confused so many times on the forums I thought I would clear it up just incase.

For example the previous thread mentions 3mil lamminate. so thats 0.003" to convert to mm we times by 25.4.

0.003x25.4=0.0762mm or if we round it to make it a standard measurement we have 75microns.

the lam that ritewing ship is a serious element in the strengthening of the wing. way more than any of the thin coloured stuff out there

Being a long time flyer myself I too thought this "lam" was all marketing fanboy hype... After using it on my Z2 I wish I had discovered it earlier for my slope wings.
