Fly, be free! (splat)
Me - I bought a lipo charging bag - maybe not perfect but simple and economical. (I have good chargers too - no budget stuff.)

Guys a quick question. Is it better to set the brake in the esc or not? Will it protect the prop during landings?

The default setting is no brake, which makes sense, so the prop can be freely bumped clear if it touches the ground.

Brake off. With it on it could get stopped in a perpendicular position inviting a broken prop.

Bummed. The new Phoenix 4 simulator has arrived from Horizon Hobby but it Still does not include a Wildcat to fly. Dang. They do include a hand-launched A-10, so I'm not sure why the Phoenix guys didn't include our Wildcat.

Yes, I kept hoping.
You can look at similar planes and go into scale wizard to get our 38" ws.
also change cg and such.
Try Rare Bear or the parkzone Jug for "the feel"
Have fun Chris

Brake Off = Less Drag

'Brake-OFF' can mean you are less likely to break a prop but its also benficial,
(particularly on larger aircraft), because it allows the propellor to spin freely in the wind at 0% throttle.
A prop that is frozen in one spot creates far more drag.
This will reduce your glide distance and can have a slight disruptive effect on the airflow over the aircraft.
There is an 'Air Crash Investigation' episode of a pilot running out of fuel.
He ditched because he couldnt see himself reaching the airport. It was ugly.
The reason he didnt make the airport was because he neglected his props and didnt let them 'spin in the wind'.

So if we have to cut the throttle on the Wildcat and still want her to float in nice and smoothly,
with a consistent flow of air over the control surfaces, then turning the brake OFF is a good idea.
Obviously the bigger the propellor the greater the drag coefficient.
Not so noticeable on the wildcat but an interesting fact,
(the magnets in brushless motors dont always let the prop spin easily and its only a 9x6 prop).
Once you're down then its less likely that the the prop will dig-in and break.
Its worth noting that propellors WILL still break with the brake-off.
Taking spare props to the field is the go.

Landing gear

I'm tired of replacing props and cowl on my Wildcat from landing.
Where I fly the landing is in a slightly grassy gravelly area. On landing I usually inhale gravel into the motor and have to blow it out. I'm on my 3rd cowl and second prop. Time for a landing

I was thinking of using the LG from a Extra 300.
Main Landing gear
Landing gear plate

I still will hand launch and wonder if I need a tail wheel?
Any other suggestion or other solutions?

Go to a carpet store & get enough roll end scraps to make yourself a landing strip, or find a grass field.

You might look into a Mas prop. I've had good luck running a 9x7x3 on the Cat. Have yet to break one on grass landings. Might chew it up on gravel some, and you'll also need to upgrade your ESC. I've not run any of their 2 bladed props but they might also be worth a gander. As far as the cowling goes, have you tried a strip of re-inforced packing tape? Hows the belly skid hold up? Gd Luck!

There's a wildcat you can get for clearview, it's a pretty good model of it.
