Tim, that's because, that is, what it is. If you go back through old SSM magazines, Loren Perry did a build article, when it was released in the early '90s. I believe, Lindberg got the tooling from somebody else. One would have to check the parts for the mfg. logo, to know who, and when, the parts were made. I will take a new one, in the box. CaptCB

They are both the same kit. The same one that Lindberg just reissued, all plastic. Very nice kit with plenty of room for R/C gear. The only difference between the Marx and the Lindberg kit is the color of the plastic.
Kof P, once it's built and painted you can find NO difference between the two period. Marx was a toy company that made a number of model kits that Lindberg later molded and issued to include a large stagecoach and a civil war cannon. Very well done models. Marx also made a small ready to run Chris Craft cabin cruiser called the Patrica, it was free running but can be made r/c with todays small systems.

"VINTAGE RC CHRIS CRAFT BOAT ELECTRIC RADIO CONTROL - MACK MOTORS - 31" LONG
FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION --- VINTAGE CHRIS CRAFT ELECTRIC RC BOAT - IT APPEARS TO BE PLASTIC ASSEMBLY...
WEIGHS ABOUT 6-1/2 POUNDS AND MEASURES 31" LONG...
I HAVE NO IDEA THE AGE OR CONDITION OF THIS CHRIS CRAFT MODEL...
SELLING AS-IS WITH NO RETURNS DUE TO AGE...
THERE ARE TWO M.A.C.K. ELECTRIC MOTORS INSTALLED WITH TWO PROPS...
"
Only a little "unusual." That is the Marx Constellation, re-kitted by Lindbergh (but without the figures), and re-issued again this year. The current bid was very close to the new price for a Lindbergh kit, but with the M.A.C.K. motors it may still have been a deal.

would be cooler if the hull was built up too, Instead of being a log

I have the later version of this kit with different artwork on the box lid. I believe the kit itself is identical to this earlier version. Concerning the hull, there's good news and there's bad news.
The good news is that the hull is built up, and can be powered by an electric motor/prop. The bad news is that it is small (17" x 5 3/4"), and would be a challenge to be r/c'd; a determined modeler could probably do it using very small r/c equipment.
The hull-shaped piece shown in the last picture is an essentially flat piece that is the bottom of the hull. A balsa frame piece fits in the transverse groove in this part. A piece of balsa strip fits in a longitudinal groove in the hull bottom to form the keel. Sheet balsa forms the hull sides. The removable cabin is made from balsa and mahogany pieces. A fittings set is provided in the kit. My set was slightly incomplete, though the kit was purchased as NOS from a hobby shop back in the seventies.
Though a bit of trouble, my idea would be to blow the one page instruction sheet up so that a 27" model could be constructed using this kit as a starting point. Such a model (1" = 1') would be a more practical size to construct and r/c. The model would be very close in size and layout to Sterling's C-C 32' Super Deluxe Enclosed Cabin Cruiser kit (28" long.)
For comparison, Sterling's Higgins' 26' Express Cruiser is 15" long, this Richardson 27 is 17" long, and C-C's 47' Buccaneer kit is 19" long. All are rather small.
