Monster Astro SS Maiden and new problems

Just came back from the church from the maiden. I was happy to see the wing stood up fine under full power loops ,etc. So decided I would see if it would survive a full power outside loop from inverted. Wing did fine but was afaraid I was going to lose the tail feathers. They started vibrating enough so the up and down flapping was very visible!. The carbon tape on the bottom did fine in normal loops etc. but looks like I'm gonna have to reinforce the upper surfaces of the elevator! I think I will just laminate a 1/64th plywood strip to the LE and top of elevator and see if that won't provide enough stiffness! But I'm still kicking around other Ideas. I guess it really would make more sense to replace the tail with say 1/8" or thicker balsa! I think I'd better scrap the Astro 05 SS idea! Vertical as expected is again unlimited and happens pretty fast! Well back to the workshop!
More later! Love the look on peoples faces when with no noise or fuss the bird just takes off straight up!

Perhaps you could use 3/4oz fiberglass applied with Minwax Polycrylic. The Polycrylic wets the fiberglass very well and pulls it down to the surface you are covering so it is very easy to apply. Iíve been looking at it for strengthening the SS wing in preparation for a power upgrade. According to this article http://rcgroups.com/links/index.php?...at=202&id=4018 the combination weights about 50gr/sq yd. I figured that if I covered the bottom of the wing it would add about 1/2oz.

Below are photos I had taken testing this combination using the leftovers from the tail feathers. One shows the reduction in deflection with the fiberglass just applied to the bottom. The other shows you can bend it a full 180 without cracking. Normally it will crack at about 90 deg.

Well guys was a real simple fix! 3/4" fiber reinforced packing tape in the Zagi pattern and it is now maxie stiff! Kind of spoils the inherent good looks of the SS however as it now looks like it's ready for shipping! Good looking SS yea right! Actually the pattern looks kind of cool! Don't think I'll go try it right now as thunderheads have moved in and I have an adversion to standing in a open area with a 5 foot lightning rod in my hands! See if I can get some action pics the next couple of days! Sending of warm fuzzies or a group hug is appreciated!
