Cheap RC car platform to be used for FPV testing?

I'd like to get the car equivalent of a cheap ARF plane to test my FPV setup on. Plus, it would be cool to drive around with a head-tracked camera.

Does anyone know of an inexpensive RTR car that will accept a standard receiver (I'll be using a futaba 7c in this case).

the traxxas slash is a great platform for testing

done lots of ground testing and was well worth it

turn it into front wheel drive and it goes even better

I just thought of something. Is it possible to do reverse on an Air radio?

setup throttle on elevator and steering on aileron channel
drive with right stick
make sure no trims or subtrims are set, and you might wanna increase the travel limit on those channels

If you do that with a Traxxas vehicle, be sure to re-calibrate the ESC once you add your new radio. You should be set them. I drive with the right stick as well.

Put a dead band in the throtle stick in the center

so when positioned in the cetre it is neutral and stops the car/truck

forward it forward back is reverse

aileron control is turning left and right

try to keep all your controls and switches as they would be on your plane

I run stock esc but remove the red wire, and then plug in a separate rx battery pack to power the esc.

I run my slash on 4000mah or so 3 cells lipo all the time.

That works, but personally I would put throttle on throttle (no center spring), steering on rudder. Mode 2 has these on the same stick. I'd set the throttle curve to have a deadband under the middle, and use expo to taste on the rudder. Then I'd use the aileron/elevator for a pan/tilt for my camera because I don't really like head tracking units. This makes it work a lot more like many two-stick video games, where one stick moves the body and the other stick aims the camera independently.

It might be a bit small for what you are looking for (1/18 scale) but the Pro-Pulse is super cheap and preforms quite well considering. You can get them on eBay for about $50 and if you stick a 2s lipo in it they really move!

This is a video of a completely stock setup:

Sorry, but what do you mean by proportional? As far as I can tell it's just a standard servo (with a servo saver!) and forward/reverse brushed speed control. I actually have never used the stock radio that comes with it, I just put a Spektrum Rx in it as soon as I got it.

The manufacturer is Megatech. I believe they don't actually produce this car anymore (it's been replaced with the very similar "MegaPro") but you can still buy replacement parts on their website here, or on ebay which is probably much cheaper. The instruction manual is available as well, here is a link to it.

you can get any rc car and fpv it. Me and my friend made a 360 pan and tilt out of legos with a couple of servos. It was very fun
