I try to get down to 1/80th, but in all honesty, I don't get many really sharp keepers at that speed, my red bull habit doesn't help either! It really depends on the size of the plane, how smooth the pilot is, wind which bounces up both the lens and the plane, and the focal length of course, but around 125th the keeper ratio starts to come up nicely for me. I bought a loverly new ball head for my monopod for some super slow pans, but haven't tried it yet.

Cool, thanks Gouch. 1/80th is pretty slow. Will start at 1/125 and work my way down and see how they look. Bit out of practise with the panning..... Will give the image stabilizer a work out thats for sure.

I have never had any luck panning with a monopod, it never pivots on the right spot for me.

I usually try and grab some keepers first at around 350 to 500, then experiment later. That way if I blow the pans, at least I have something!

Re the monopod: That's what I'm thinking too, and I normally simply hand hold but if it removes the up and down element of my failed nerves, then it should help.....that's the plan anyway. The head has a ball lock and separate pan motion but it's really a tripod head. I did try it at the RAAF airshow but ditched it after only about 10 minutes as it was too restrictive. I didn't really notice any worse or better in the pics, but I should try some more before I give up on the idea and go buy myself some zanax

You still got the 70-200 2.8?

Weather predictions also look better for Swan Hill than here in Melbourne.
Yippee.
Nice bit of rain here in Swan Hill today and tomorrow, so the runways should be sweet, the grass nice and green, and the forecast for the weekend is looking okay. Saturday might be a bit breezy, but we'll survive.

More importantly - no airborne locusts for another week or so.

Bring it on.

They have a generator at the field, not sure if there was 240v available. I always charged my batteries from the car battery.

Woohoo got the last of the little bits I needed from Addies today. Ordered yesterday in my plane at home today... now thats fast thanks Knut

From memory there isn't 240 vol and with the number of people it would be a bit much for any system being an electric fly-in and all

I have a battery and solar panel sorted through a friend. No starting my car Sunday arvo using a lipo again

think anyone would be interested in buying anything. I was going to bring a few planes in boxes to sell.

EDIT: Roomy will be happy to know room is booked staying at the paddle steamer.

Swan Hill pics. Great weekend. Still too tired to write anything much.

Highlights, fastest funjet I've seen. 8S, scorpion outrunner, easy handlaunch
E-flite pogo's are a winner. Great flying plane.
HET Komet, got lots of interest. Steve's new fox glider. Doesn't really believe in gravity. Night flying with 4 or 5 radians, a cool looking funjet. Met some great people and can't wait for next year.
