While posting pics of dinner from phone, I came across this feather picture I forgot to post. It floated across my face one day and settled in my flight box...

It's from Coyote Hills in Fremont, CA where many many different birds abound. Vultures/hawks/kites, etc....any guesses for this one?

Great horned owl. Fer sure. I see them infrequently when camping locally. They're around.

Edited: silly picture perspective....that's a 10" plate there.

Osso buco tonight. I used regular beef shanks instead of veal. I seared the meat and then simmered in a tomato-y sauce with carrots, onion, and celery with herbs. If you were to Google the recipe, I used the first hit from Food Network.

Alas, I didn't get any pictures. The food was snarfed before pictures came to mind.

RE: feather
Coloration certainly matches the owl pic...and certainly owls aren't "solely nocturnal"...yet, i dunno (no really, i dunno).

I had such a great of flying at the slope today! It was a much needed start to my weekend. I didn't go to bed after work this morning, but it was totally worth it to get in a full day of sloping in 15-25mph winds.

Hooray for airplanes!

That feather could also have floated down from a sleeping bird, and got carried away in the wind, straight to you.

Want pics? I'll shoot tonight's dinner bowl then.

Didn't know we had to have food pictures. Oops...

Dinner today was Nissan Chicken Chow Mein... Incidentally, that's a full set of 16 ribs for The Bug next to the empty chow mein container.

You gotta like how an empty microwave container gets 5 views on this thread.

Nope, only two views on the second go-round.

The FIAT club Yahoo group is a-buzz talking about putting an air turbine generator on their cars. Heh! Anyone have some numbers to prove why not? I already pointed out that the drag/power generated ratio will be weighted toward drag, and that an air turbine doesn't burn fuel to sit and digest wind. What other mischief can I get into?

I stand by my ID. As an ameteur birder, and one that specializes at ID-ing feathers, it's an owl.

Turkey body feathers are crescent shaped, black, and prettily iridescent.

Just sayin'.

Night owl is most likely a great gray, but could be a barred. Silent killers with wings, those. Great horneds, though, can take prey as large as skunks, and do, because they can't smell.
