Awwww! A friend was sweet enough to fix my Spektrum Tx for me. I got to fly the Radian today. I forgot how addictive it is! No lift here? Power over to there! This is just for sport flying, mind. I know how it goes, if I want to solely thermal.

The Radian didn't want to act right, and the ESC won't do like the mockingbird and sing, so I need to re-re-bind and see what's up. It was acting funny and the prop wouldn't stop.

Still-- Fun!

:crap: Radian question:

Something isn't right. The motor has no power (no guts, no glory, it won't pull the plane to altitude -- no power), and the brake won't work. I took it off --- is the motor housing supposed to move? Independent of the prop (meaning I can turn the housing one way, and the prop another way)?

For those troubleshooters out there, the battery is brand new and F-R-E-S-H.

Solved!

The nut came loose somehow from the shaft.

Grrrrr! The nut is STUCK on. I took out the little set screw, and with it all I got were :gasp: metal filings. It's jammed onto the motor shaft.

Now what?

Hold the can and turn the prop adapter (nut) and look to see if the shaft has a flat spot on it.
If it does then see if the set screw will still screw in snug without stripping.
If it will then use some loctite on it and don't over tighten.

If the shaft doesn't have a flat spot then I suggest prying it off with something and using a collet type prop adapter.

The flat spot is gone. The set screw acted like a lathe, and cut a new ring around the shaft. The sucky part is that the "tool" was dull, and was pushing more material than cutting, and the pushed-up ring of prop shaft material created a sort-of lock, keeping the adaptor on the shaft, free-wheeling. Great, I have a new, permanent BEARING on the shaft. Pfffft!

Then your only option is to grind off the aluminum prop adapter, dress the shaft and go with a collet.

Flyzwell, I did reinstall the set screw, and it seems tight, to my fingers. I don't trust it, though.

EDIT: What the heck?!? What was here is not what I posted. Oh, well.

Thanks for the help!

I find myself with a problem motor/shaft combo, and I have an idea. There is a building revution in club Radian, changing out the adaptor and blades, making a beer cooler thatcan climb almost vertically. If I'm going to have to replace it all, I might as well upgrade. They say that there's a chance that stock props can shatter without warning. Yuck.

Lil,

Maybe you just need a bigger hammer. I can lend you one if you need it.

Hey Keith, how much do you charge to make one? Do you make a 24" wingspan one?
