Sane til the lift starts!

One of these days (after I win the lottery), I want to get a sailboat and learn how to sail on my own.

A few years ago I helped my friend build a really nice wooden dinghy. It's a Passagemaker from Chesapeake Light Craft. It was fun to put together, kinda like a laser-cut airplane kit. We left it in a "natural finish", so that the wood grain would show throughout. It looked gorgeous, with the luminous wood grain showing through the clear coat.

When going from anchor to the dinghy docks, we always take the long route through all the lines of boats. Everyone, even the people in multi-million dollar boats, would compliment our dinghy as we passed by. It's cool to see our beautiful little woodie in the middle of all the dirty inflatables at the dock. Even though it has an outboard motor, I often like to break out the oars and do some old-school rowing through the harbor. He got the kit with all the stuff to add the mast, sails, etc but he never got around to rigging that up. So far it's only been used as ship-to-shore tender.

Here's what the boat looks like, pics taken from their website:

Oh, Cap'n, you are too funny!

We weren't paying attention to the tides, and got flushed out under the Bay Bridge, which connects Oakland to SF. It's the bridge that's famous fro breaking during the '89 quake. Anyways, yeah, we were stuck running in place under power, trying to keep pointed dead into the current-- if we turned even a smidge we'd loose ground. That was a cold, cold day, too.

Here's the boat that got stuck:

Sad to say, we have to sell one, and this is the one we chose to re-home. This is the boat that started the Potter Yachters, the oldest running WWP sailing club. Great bunch of guys and gals.

This having a hurt back sucks. There is no position that is "comfortable." There are only positions that don't hurt quite as badly as other positions.

That sucks Owl... I used to have lots of back pain when I was younger, but for some reason that disappeared in my late teens or early twenties. Weird.

Have you tried ALL positions? Like upside down?

Stepping on my toes is not going to make me forget about how badly my back hurts. It will however made my knuckles hurt, too.

Knuckles... I wouldn't step on your knuckles.. That would be cruel and unusual.
