Carry a rifle. If it happens again, you can shoot off one wingtip and let it spiral in before it gets too far away.

TOO attached?

I feel your pain, Orni. Trust me, in Freeflight, one of the simultaneously best/worst things that can happen is the OOS flight. (Out of sight.) Chances for recovery are slim, and 30-gram stick and tissue planes don't survive the elements well. Nothing like spending 40-60 hours building a P30-class freeflight to have it disappear on a test flight. ("Of course I didn't light the dethermalizer. I only had 200 winds on the motor!" )

Yeah, one the one hand you're saying "Crap, I can't believe I lost that plane!". And on the other hand you're saying "Holy cow, did you see how awesome that was!"

I didn't even think that you could OOS a P-30 sized plane, since they're so small. I've really never flown FF, but that still surprises me. Cool!

My horoscope this morning said that a bunch of people will send me PayPal payments today.

So... who's going to be first?

I paid her to tell me the future. Then she said, "You will feel cheated."

??? They have a 30 inch wingspan, with a minimum weight of 35 grams. For someone who teethed on Peanuts and indoor, they're HUGE! I don't think I've ever seen a P-30 FF design that didn't include a dethermalizer, supposedly so you WON'T accidentally go OOS. I recall, however, one guy talking about how he watched his P-30 continue to climb after a pop-up stab DT tripped!

Y'know what... I must have been thinking of Peanut, not P-30. I was picturing the ones that look like they're about 12" or 15" wingspan or so. Like the one in the latest issue of Model Aviation, that cute little Skandinavisk.

Ahh. Could be. Here is a picture of Ray Bazurto, winding his P30 (it doesn't say which model this is). P30 class is a freeflight endurance class that has a maximum dimension of 30 inches.
