more goodies from Airflow
from Sept/Oct 2002 Airflow, edited by David Dodge:
-a sort of cartoon Delanne. 32 inch span Not scale but recognizable. David thanks Ken Horne for the plan from April 1944 MAN. The other Delanne stuff here and on the next plan are credited to Ken and to Paul Deweer. -Delanne by Doug Rolfe 21 inch scale design. Sorry it's so small! -5 cent Monocoupe, 10 inch span, credit to David Gee for supplying it. Needs to be scaled up. Printwood, unfortunately, is missing. ------------------------------------------------ Nov. Dec. 2002 Airflow also edited by David Dodge -Horten IV by Len Marlow about 3 feet span, I think. From 1952 Air Trails Annual via Winter '78 Classic Flying Models. David credits Harvey Pastel for the 3 view. He tells us that Carl Godel (aka Dr. Fate, I believe) reports that the one he made was an excellent flyer. I would think it would need more washout. I think the real one had something like 7 degrees! Not linear either. ------------------------------------------------- Jan Feb 2003 Airflow, again edited by David Dodge -Nickel scale YP-37 from Hi Flier David credits Steve Remington for supplying the plan and box art. No print wood, unfortunately. David gives some credit to Dave Gee. I think that's for the 3 view. -Dime scale Stuka from Burd. Supplied by Dave Stott. --------- There's a bunch of other stuff in these newsletters, but it's of more recent origin, or is documentation, so it doesn't really belong in this thread. My favorite is the Baloney scale info (fiction flyer wouldn't do it justice) by Bob Rogers. Maybe, if I have the nerve, I'll put it on Hip Pocket or something. Allegedly developed by "Otto von Ztelth" and known as the "Ztelth Fighter". And so on in that vein. Another issue has the "Little Fat Pot Bellied Peg Legged Tub o'Lard Speckled Bird". That's a Bostonian. But it's too recent for this thread. |

Is there any plans for one of the old "Wakefield" class of rubber powered planes somewhere on this forum can someone tell me?
At least, I think that was the name of the type or class. |

There are lots of Wake drawings, from several different eras.
Easiest way to find them is search for "wake" on Outerzone http://www.outerzone.co.uk/search/re...wake&Submit=Go |

My thought was that maybe you were fiendishly hoarding the highly detailed jpgs, and enjoying the torment inflicted on us trying to trace from fuzzy pdfs |

Attention Jim Thompson.
Just saw your post chasing HYPHEN information. I built one in '78-'79......the full size 80in span one for a Dooling 29. I built it from the Australian magazine from 1950 it was in. I had no full size plan but just built it direct onto wood being careful to have all the measurements correct. The Dooling was on hard tank crankcase pressure from a nipple in the rear of the engine and I used to run it on 50% nitro, 25% methanol and 25% castor. Was a very good engine and ran hard on a 9 X 4 APC prop. It won and placed in many Vintage Power comps here for close to 30 years......it would have had 100s of flights. A couple of years ago it had not flown for a while and the heavy Modelspan tissue looked pretty tired, and as I'd had success with a Playboy Snr. in our Vintage Power I decided to pull the engine out and sell the model and engine. I put the model on eBay and it went to an RC guy not far from here, and he intended to RC it and put an electric motor in it.....have never seen it again. Geoff Potter who posts here bought the Dooling.....I think he still has it. Found a couple of pics.......enjoy. |

Hyphen
Thanks Gossie and Hogal.
It sure looks similar, but not quite the same. Mine had a fuse constructed of basically 1/2 balsa in a more or less profile style fuselage. Doubled up diagonally around the wing saddle area with 1/8" balsa. Not sure, but I think mine was 72 inch span. However, it is very unlikely that there were two of the same name and so similar? Perhaps there were two versions of the plane. I also built mine from a magazine one page plan. All carefully scaled up. Not sure of the name of the magazine. I have figured out that I must have been around 15 years of age or less when I built mine. I'm 67 now. One detail sticks in my mind was the 3/16 inch thick wing ribs. Jim. |

Blue Up
A friend in France is looking for information on this model, ideally for a plan.
Name of the model apparently is "Blue Up", as displayed on the fuselage side. Anyone? |

J-M,
Looking at the image, it seems likely that Nick Bruschi of SAM San Marino may well know something about the model and its origins... dbruschi@freeinternet.it Brian |

Yes, that's the plan of the 80in. span model I built.
Jim, the version you built is also a Hyphen but smaller, 72in. from memory and does indeed have a profile fuselage.......so your memory is good. Both plans are in AUSTRALIAN MODEL HOBBIES magazines from 1950, but different issues. |

I can recommend using Gimp to extract images from the pdfs. I think I am right in saying if you use Gimp and do import at 300dpi then convert it to greyscale, then save as an uncompressed tiff, you'll get all the sharp detail. But the resulting TIFF will be about 200MB in size. That's only good if you are going to then drop it into Photoshop and carry on editing. I mean it's no good for passing files around on the interweb.

Mine spent a week up a tree and many other adventures. I don't think it was ever crashed actually, despite being flown in relatively small areas at times. We flew it west of Port Macquarie, near the present highway. |
