I time my flights for 7 minutes. Who knows, might be able to get more, but I'd rather not stress the stock batteries. I bound my 120 SR to a LP5DSM Tx and I can say in all sincerity, she handles better and is as stable as my SRB Quark! 70 flights and counting and everything is working flawlessly, to date. I like this little gem so much that I ordered another BNF kit and 3 more extra batteries. I haven't so much as removed the canopy OR original blades, pretty much maintenance free to date!

By all means don't go anywhere... I can't tell you how many lipo fire stories begin with "so we came back from the store and the fire department was at the house" - but you don't have to hawk-eye it - the charger shuts off when it's done, but I don't know how that switching is accomplished and I think it's safer to remove the battery from the charger after it's done, but if it sits for a couple extra hours it's no big deal. Keep it on a fireproof surface so if it does go up, it won't catch anything else. A lipo fire by itself can usually be contained, but if it catches something else, then it can be a real problem.

7 minuites is just fine for these heli's, I wouldnt want it longer cause that will have it getting too hot. Because it's advised to allow it to cool in between flights, so if you put say uhhh that 1300mah one I read mentioned in here that could double the flight time and since the heli is now working harder to carry that bigger battery and flying longer this can only result in short motor life, and perhaps other heat related damage.
Just fly it for what it is, and buy more batteries. |

Ok, I have a bad habit and I'm ready to come clean... When I get done with a flight, I take the battery out and hold it in my mouth for a second and take a temp reading with my lips. Now, before, when flying my mSR, this was not a problem, and it just gave me a relative idea of the temps of the batteries. No scientific reason, no real data collected, just an indication that the battery was being really juiced, or it was a pretty easy flight and the battery was a little cooler.
I don't know how many of you have ever put a stock 120 battery in your mouth lately (to hold it for a second while sitting the transmitter down and picking up the heli), but I SWEAR TO GOD they have put the most nasty, God forsakenly hard to get the taste out of your mouth sticker on the outside of the battery that every time I make this mistake (habit from the mSR is REALLY hard to break) I spend the next hour spitting and chewing gum, and brushing my teeth to try and get the taste out of my mouth. I'm thinking I'd rather drink a big hot bowl of monkey spunk than have this taste in my mouth, and I can't seem to stop doing it. Currently I'm removing the stock stickers from the batteries hoping it's the sticker that tastes so fking bad... I'll let you know. BH |

I am now flying my 120 SR with a DX8. Are those gymbals every nice to use. I have not even bothered to do any sort of mixing with it but therre is no question that this heli does not like to turn to the left and that is just its nature. With the number of mixes available on the DX8, I am sure someone will get a nice setup going for level fff and left turns. Lots of choices for adjustments but settings are quite different compared to the DX6i.Take care.

Ahh hah! So, bublehead is one of those for whom all the choking hazzard warnings are about.
Sorry Bub, couldn't resist. Must be the same glue on the old days envelope flaps. I hated that, which is probably the main reason for being late paying bills back then. Ok, maybe not cause I still pay'em late at 55. And I don't need an envelope now. |
