Full flaps requires a lot more precession and skill. So start with 20 degrees full is only 30 on these 172's. The Cessna 150 has 40 degrees so it is like putting out the barn doors. You really need to point that nose at the ground with all the flaps in on it.

Ah okay thanks. 20 Degrees for every plane including the airliners, warbirds, etc?

Not every plane...some (the faster, aerodynamically cleaner) planes need much more flap. On 747, 737 it needs all the flaps to keep that speed stable on approach.

I think under details when you are choosing a plane some of the reccomended settings are listed.
I may be wrong, i'll have to double check that myself!
Basically, the more flaps the faster you drop! & AX is right practice practice practice practice!
Take one plane at a time & try approaches at different settings to see the effect!
Thats the good thing about sims you can learn without injury!

Have any of you guys seen any of the high performance RC sailplanes that sometimes have the capability to reach 90 degrees of flaps?
Also use dual "up aileron at the same time?
It's called "crow" and can literally almost stop the airplane in flight!
Makes for extremely accurate spot landings!

I sometimes find the longest runway I can & play with flap settings while trying to maintain the same altitude. Sometimes I have to use the 2d view that just has the guages across the bottom of the screen or the outside view to see the runway!

Okay thanks guys. I guess i will experiment with it when i get that joystick in...its such a terrible experience flying with the keyboard and mouse! Yeah sims are awesome in the fact that you can learn without injury. I don't have a RC simulator, but luckily, most of my fleet is micros!

Another question...I just experimented with landing, and have observed something. Am I supposed to let the plane roll a little bit on landing before applying the brakes, or should i apply the brakes right before touchdown? What i have noticed is, when i dont apply the brakes right before touchdown and let the plane get down on the runway without the brakes applied, it bounces back up into the air. But, when i apply the brakes right before the plane touches the ground, it tends not to bounce and makes for a pretty good landing.

You're touching down on the pavement with the wheels locked up by Brakes. That makes it where it will slam the nose down and will make it stopr quicker. But if you did that in a real airplane you will damage landing gear, tires, perhaps ever run the plane off the runway one side or the other. So If you let your speed bleed off in the landing flair with all the power removed and let the plane settle it will not bounce. You ar landing weith to much speed and hitting hard on the runway it will bounce back up and there is still flying speed so it fill float a moment and then hit again and as you do this over and over it is called "Pilot Induced Oscillations". NOT GOOD, so let the speed bleed off while you are still in the air don't force it onto the runway.
