Hey -- sorry to hear about your situation, Steve.

Maybe with the xtra time you can create a winning entry in the slope aerobic video contest, and live off your winnings for years!

Hoping the wind -- and a new job -- come your way soon!

the answer 42 is
Mann I feel your pain, I have the counter above my head, my contract finishes the 30 of september and I need to get another project before that day :P

the wind has been in the wrong direction, plus a rain cloud just park it self over Switzerland for the last three week, so I cannot even go out to look for new slopes, sCHally is getting a new "holding wing system" but with this weather there is no rush :P

Sorry to hear that Steve!!!
Thinking positive, U have created a true flying addiction around SALLY!!!

Your creativity levels are off the chart, soon this will give back, and U will be up on tour feet again!!!

Remember the famous words, USE THE FORCE, Steve!!!!

To contribute to your self-esteem, almost a tribute this thread and its central figures... Ive started something... a hybrid...

Has a lot to do with the original SALLY concept that U have created, with some ZA flavor also...

I present the MONOLITH...

Sorry to hear Steve!!
I am also there....but was by choice.....clearly my timing was way out...did'nt see the world wide recession still in a dive Anyways....haveing too much time does have slight when the wind is light but direction is good!
J and I went for a quick fly today at Maitlands. He has'nt seen the ZAlly of mine fly yet. I was like a kid in a candy store! It was beautifull, light....about 10km/h, but good lift.
Some pics....enjoy!

So.... the MONOLITH mutated... a shape is born!

Ive been busy!
Decided to step up and join the high rollers!!!

Steve and J your work as inspired many, and this is a good starting point to the mold frenzy!!!
This build is the continuation of the UK/ZA joint venture to do the SALLY story...

Adam has made his knowledge contribution as well, and pointed me the items and products needed to start! my goods list is done and waiting on some drawer money to place the order!!!!

Im in the mold collision path, and so far so g(w)ood, the easy part!!!

I started by painting all 2 sides of the 4 pieces of wood, this resulted on the MONLITH.
It paid off, I have a black cross line along the shape to help sculpting the FUSE out.
The tail was done by sandwiching 2mm ply and 3mm balsa each side.

Sanding has been fast but painful, the result is satisfying considering my first 3D work, 2D is my everyday work, drawing it was easy...

Next will probably be the joining of the two pieces square and straight, I might build a simple jig to achieve perfection...

I'm not worried in finishing this learning process fast, probably this will be a slow mold build but ill get there... I hope!!!!

The SALLY thread will definitely not die! soon!!!

Help will be appreciated in many steps of the process, beware strange, basic, unnecessary, obvious, dummy style questions and doubts will occur!!! be patient...

A tribute to all who have made the learning possible to make this project! THANKS!

PS: Sorry on the pic wall created!!! to much anxiety!!!

Well done!

It's a perfect size for your 1st attempt at moulding!
The glass layup tends to be a bit hard to cut in single layer templates , but you will do fine!
You do realise, that you will never have a feather weight.
If you want it lighter, you will have to do the tail separately and probably a bagged component.
I'm happy with ours as it is at around 420g total AUW.
It still flies beautifully in 12 km/h wind!
We'll be watching!!

So, whilst everybody else is suddenly preoccupied with fishes....

Zally is quietly doing her thing!
You can pretty much fly her "in your face style"
With speed, penetration and agility!
In light winds!
Here is Sean jamming with his Zally at Maitlands!

Not really strung together too well...
But the gist is there!
More about a point and place in time!

I'll give you the raw material and you can have a go!
There is some good flying too...
