Mike, you've assuaged me.

Larry, that website does help put the pieces together. I haven't seen them all grouped together so nicely before, and the close-up pictures are a bonus. Thanks.

I've been around this hobby for more than 30 years and am a ham radio operator and I don't know the names for all the different connectors out there. It doesn't help when they are called by different names by different people. I was in the midwest and was looking for a SMA connector and the owner of a electronics parts store told me that it didn't exist because it wasn't in his catalog. It is a common cell phone connector.

They may be referring to a 2 cell or other multi-cell battery, which would have a balance "tap" connector and a main discharge connector. Single cell Lipos, such as the 190mAh MiniAviation, have a fairly standard connector, as part of the actual cell. They, and most other micro orientated 1S Lipo's will work on the Champ just fine. I am presently having a student fly his Champ on MA 190's, with good performance and flying times. For my own Champ, I use Hyperion 240mAh 1S Lipo's, and they fit the connector just fine, as shown in the photo.

The included 150mAh 1S Lipo that comes with the Champ is OK, but as you will discover via RCGroups and speaking with other Champ flyers, there are better batteries out there that have better capacity, performance, and lower prices. Good luck with your Champ, it's a great plane. I am on my second one now, Champ #1 lost , still out on patrol, and very much missed.

Thank you for your explanation regarding what may have happened on the Miniaviation site, and for another confirmation of the Multiaviation 190mah.

I just wish the various manufacturers and resellers would pay more attention to their plug descriptions -- it's really confusing for a newbies trying to educate themselves. Luckily there are resources like this forum where you can ask for help!

I've also made a note of the Hyperion 240mAh 1S you mentioned. I can source these directly from Australia, which is where I live, so these look like a good option too, and they even have more capacity which is a plus. It looks like the battery compartment will need to be widened slightly, but that will be simple enough to do with a utility knife.

What do you all think are the most worthy mods for the champ?

I think one of the best mods for my champ was the prop adapter, 1.5mm and 5043 propeller, tail wheel moved, and a larger capacity battery, with a larger landing gear. and of course, the Keychain cam added for onboard video. I know it is a multiple mod? Lol
