Got my wheels back on the Champ. I discovered that the paperclips on my desk are coated with a clear plastic. I stripped off a tiny piece of the plastic like stripping a wire....dabbed a bit of CA on and inside it with a toothpick and slipped it on the end of the gear wire. Then I finished it off with another drop of CA on very end of the wire/plastic tip. I kept the tire spinning until I was sure the glue was dry..... We will have to see how it holds in use, but right now, it looks pretty good! Would likely work just as well by stripping any proper guage wire, if your paperclips are uncoated.... We're fancy here..... Only coated paperclips for us!

You have to be careful, tho... if you over prep them, rolling them between thumb and finger too much, they'll vanish.

Has anyone considered or actually moved the rear landing gear unto the fuse and off of the tail? It seems like it maybe a little more stable there and not as rough on the rudder.... Just currious before I try it..lol

Lots of people have done it.

I'd rather have steering (especially when I'm practising hard surface landings on the road out front and can see a car coming)

well in theory if your rolling on the ground and the air passing the rudder would give u turn or that was my thought process. lol

I think that only works when it's on floats

but maybe someone who has done it will pipe up, I can't see it working well in a steering "emergency"

I got the idea after doing some research on the
http://www.horizonhobby.com/products...lt-pnp-PKZ5375

It turns with out the gear being attached to the Rudder.

WSEN thanks for the input.

I wonder if that gear still pivots?

I put those dubro tires on my champ but it was way underpowered had to fight to keep it airborne, someone mentioned replacing the centers with "depron" what is depron?

So broke I can't pay attention
When I got my Champ #1, one of the first things I did was move the tail wheel to the fuse, still turns fine while on the ground, unless you take the time to reinforce the rudder it will get damaged, without a doubt.
