Could someone with a Champ brick laying around measure it for me? I want to use Champ guts in a balsa FF conversion and I'm curious whether the brick will fit.

Edit: Also saw someone that mentioned flying with a P51 motor on the stock Champ batteries (150mah 12C, I think) is not good (a person had experienced stuttering and shutoff). I'm curious if the Tenergy 160mah 15C batteries would be good with the P51 motor.

Edit2: If anyone has a RTF Champ in questionable condition and would like to sell, PM me please. Must include Tx, charger, etc.

Looking at Champ.Mk.1 (currently undergoing conversion to a twin rotor, coaxial auto-gyro)

From front to back, in aircraft coordinates, the circuit board is 23mm long and the overall length, including the servo gearing in the front and the throttle plug in the back, is 25mm.

The circuit board is 27mm wide.

The right servo drive axis is 4.5mm from the right edge. The left servo axis is 7.5mm from the left edge. In their neutral position, the center servo connections are 7mm aft of the circuit board LE. Total servo travel is about 10.5mm.

Also, I've had zero problems with the P51 motor and any of my stock batteries; but, I monitor my batteries's performance closely and avoid flying to LVC.

Thank you, David! The fuse is 1 1/8" (28.56mm) square so it looks like it will be a perfect fit.

I'll keep that in mind about the batteries, as well.

I just placed my Um P-51 reciever in my Champ. Everything works GREAT the only issue now is that the rudder is on the L side. Id like to have it on the R side along with the elevator!!! Is this possible??? I am using a Dx6i..

Thanks ahead of time for all help...

Do this but reverse the order of the two items in the top line... this picture shows how to get the (stock) Champ's rudder over on to the left stick in the first place...

Basically, what Nof49 means is to set the Aileron--> Rudd so that Aileron maps 1:1 with the rudder channel.

That should do it. You then have rudder inputs on BOTH sticks, FYI.

Quick question.... When you change the tires on your Champ, then go flying and land in the grass and watch one of your tires go rolling across the lawn and then spend a half hour on your knees looking for that tiny black retainer and finally give up and have a bowl of ice cream..... Is there a good substitute for holding your neato tundra tires on your Champ?

For the wheel retainer... I didn't even look... I cut a small piece of plastic, used a fine needle to stick a undersized hole through it, and pushed it on to the wire.

That sounds way to easy. I will give it a try, but I was pretty sure there would be cussing and tooth grinding involved.....

Thanks!

You can also dab the very end of the wheel axle with drops of CA or Sally Hansen Hard as Nails (clear). They will pop off when you are ready to pop them off scrapping the end of the axle with a hobby knife.
