Was going to start a thread on this one and guapoman beat me to it by a couple of days no less!
As Pommie noted it seems to be the same as the ST Models cub which isn't unusual for parent company GP when it comes to parkflyers.... I don't think they actually designs any of their own electric stuff... they just seem to take someone else's product and GP-ize it with appropriate Tactic, Electrifly, flyzone, etc branding. More than once they have been one-upped by their supplier offering their plane in a different trim scheme for half he price before the GP offering even hits the shelves. This cub looks very nice but I don't mind saying that I am VERY skittish about any offering from Flyzone/Hobbico/Electrifly as they seem to always come out with planes that are heavy, unstable, underpowered, fragile or some combination of the above. Don't get me wrong, this plane looks GORGEOUS! and I truly hope it is but I shall remain skeptical until such time as I have flown one or have seen a number of comparable flight reports from folks on here. Anyone else notice that GP always seems to be in reactive mode with their parkies? and are generally left in the dust by the Horizon Hobby brands both in quality, fly-ability and sales and marketing? I really, really want this one to succeed, I really want them to offer a matching float set, I really want this to be competition for the Hobbyzone Supercub or at the very least the next step up as a solid reliable first aileron plane....... but I wont be surprised if after 8 months they are discontinued and being blown out on Tower for $69.95 (just like the Diablo, Staggerwing, original Cessna 182, etc). Enough of my slagging GP and their electric offerings. I really want this one and I really want it to be good!!! |

It looks really nice, but I wish it had been a clipwing cub personally.

Looks more like one of the J3 homebuilt knock offs, than a PA18. No flaps, the cowl is all wrong and the rudder is from a J3..

Advantage Hobby now showing a late July availability date. This is at the top of my next buy list. Thats assuming the reviews are as good as it looks.

The PA-11 (Cub Special) had a full cowl and 85 HP. The PA-12 was a three place plane.
The J-3 was flown solo from the rear seat because the fuel tank was in the nose area in front of the wind shield. The PA-11 had fuel tanks in both wings and flown solo from the front seat. |

i could be wrong, but it looks like mapnet was responding to rocketman47's comments. no?
the text for the plane says "scale"... if that's the case, it's not a supercub. it's a pa-11 "cub special" which can be determined by its fully enclosed cowl and lack of flaps. j-3 "cub" would have the cylinder heads exposed. "supercub" would have a fully enclosed cowl and flaps. the hobbyzone supercub is only a supercub based on the fuselage shape. this one doesn't miss the mark by much. if it had flaps it would be a supercub. as it is, i would prefer it over the hobbyzone version because it comes with ailerons, working suspension for the LG and that beautiful cub yellow. no need to get defensive. none of these comments are negative. |

In 1967 after soloing in a J3 flew a PA18-95 for about 10 hours - only rented for $9/hr back then. This was the original Super Cub with a 95 HP Continental, no flaps, soloed from the front seat, wing tanks, full electrical system, and came with an obsolete LF communication radio. Will buy this Tower PA18 although agreed something is not right about the fuselage outline.
