I bought one from him a few weeks ago. Great seller. He puts up a new Shrike every other week it seems.

SHRIKE build with Electric Motor

I found this thread and I can't believe it is dead.... Here is a few shots of my "new" SHRIKE ... Lanier kit 35.5" span. Flies like a dream and is very fast. I have plans for a 40 size and I'll do retracts on that one.

Very pretty! I hope you can detect the colors well in flight - you really need to maintain orientation to keep from making holes in the dirt

I'll be covering another UMX-sized one in a few weeks (it's been sitting uncovered for the better part of a year). It's getting an AS3X board, and waiting for one has been the holdup.

Andy,

What a hoot... Can't wait for the new one. Yup... colors are OK so far, but it is fast and it can go into stealth mode in a twinkle. Only thing I've found so far is that it does not want to slow very easily and landing is aleays a an adventure. I have the retracts from EFlite for the 40" span already and the plans from AirAge. I'll make the fuselage a little smaller since servos and radio gear are so much smaller now.

I have a 43" one from my own plans sitting on my workbench (for over a year, untouched) waiting to cut the holes for the retracts in the wings. I kind of lost interest in it. Hopefully this winter I'll finish it up along with several others that are almost ready for covering.

The landing problem is because as the angle of attack increases, the elevator is blanked by the fuselage and loses effectiveness. I resolved this by adding a triangular wedge (top view) to the stab outside the fins so I could get more elevator span. I don't need as much elevator throw for normal flying (and it's faster) and I have more elevator authority when landing.

The new tail looks more like a hawk now.

Andy,

Do you have a picture of the "wedge" ... didn't see anything like the description in the pictures on this site. Sounds interesting .... it is a very "clean" plane.

Andy,

Very interesting.... will the vertical fins just be on top of the stab now or will you add a lower ventral fin as well?

They plug in from the top. I increased the height slightly to compensate for the lack at the bottom. This will probably change the handling a little, and if it's too adverse I can add ventral fins afterward. I don't expect that to be the case.

Andy,

I'll have to try that as well ... on the next build. I'm pleased with the electric so far ... probably about 100mph on speed. Just need to carefully pick the landing spot.

I had a 10 size many years ago. It had an o.s. .15 , It was fast and alot of fun. Use to combat a friends sig wonder with it, that was a real riot.

For the life of me I cant remember what happened to it.
