Had a fantastic time flying with the Orlando Buzzards glider club today!

This is going to be a thread where I recap the awesome fun time I had today flying with the Buzzards. I happened to be in town for a convention and they were a great group to fly with. More later, maybe tomorrow.

Hey Ryan it was great to have you fly with us. Visitors are always welcome and add lots to our flying experience. Jody Miller maidened his new DLG Taboo GT today after losing his last ship a few weeks back. Rick Horlander maidened an absolutely awesome Xplorer 3800. What a sweet ship.
We practiced short 5min maxs and landings for hours and thanks to Rick for the following photos.

A fine day to put in the memory bank. Glad the couple of planes that landed out were recovered and still able to fly another day. Anyone know how the 2 channel ship fared?

Ryan, before you return to Santa Claus, Indiana, I hope you'll have a chance to visit Christmas, Florida, about 14 miles southeast of the Orlando Buzzard's field.
Latest blog entry: Taranis: Aileron-To-Rudder Mix.

Rick if you are refering to the orange/red/yellow... spirit res on the south side, it hung in the tree for a bit then fell to the ground, minimal damage to the wing leading edge and vertical fin.

Ryan, I'd be interested in knowing how thermal conditions differ between Indiana and Florida.

I think I might have been near Christmas today, actually.

What a fun time. I have some video I need to post. Sorry for not posting more. Everyone I met was great. Good to meet all of your. The 10K was a bunch of fun. I learned a lot from Gordon, he really has it together.

Yes and no. I have been lots of places. Not Gordy lots of places, but I have flown thermals in the 4 corners of the USA. And many places in between.

Every field is a little unique. The Buzzards field yesterday had just thermals rolling through all the time. I was flying hand launch and you could really work a thermal about every minute or so. Well, I could not work a thermal every minute, because I'm a crappy hand launch pilot, but a mediocre or good pilot could have.

Gordon's 10K was really like my 2K flight I finally succeeded in times 5. He worked several thermals, would loose height and gain height, never really got as high as a person would have really wanted to be. The man is a good pilot. I don't think I could have made the 10K. I'm not flying that well right now. Hopefully as the season goes on I can improve on things a lot.

I'm not sure if there will be a next time, but I did ask about you yesterday since I really would like to meet one of the Blues Brothers. I guess in my head you will still be Dan Akroid.
