Mud Duck Bill's RPG!

Mud Duck Bill's RPG flies!!!!

OK....I did not do circuits with it yet, but I did at least 20 hops in a parking lot to trim it out. It lifts smoothly and effortlessly. it me or is this bigger than the original? has new life breathed into her.

What did I do different?

#1 I checked to see if the H-stab and the boom are parallel....they were OK.

#2 I checked the motor mount box by "zero-ing" out the H-stab and then checked to see if the face of the box is at 90 degrees. It was not. It angled the motor that when you apply in fact are shoving the nose into the ground. I mad a plywood shim and epoxied it onto the face and made sure it read 90 degrees.

#3 Motor: Power 32/ 60 ampESC with an APC 14x7 and using 5 A123 cells.

Sorry Bill....I smoked the motor you sent me....

#4 I used my home made blades with wire leading edge.

I dont have video of it flying but hoping for better weather. I will post photos of it all together.

Nice one mate..I look forward to seeing some flights very soon. You have to be the jammiest gyronut I know..I'm glad you have sorted her out, it would have been nice to see Bill fly it but I'm sure you will have lots of fun with it.

Waiting for that video mate

Just hoping for decent weather. I figured....if I can get it to track well on pavement.....the grass will be easy!!!!

It has been drizzling rain all day and right now. You know for sure.....when the sun comes out, that orange beast will be in the air!!!!

I have found the five A123 cells gives me the weight needed in the nose, and the output thrust is SICK!!!!

Come on sunshine!!!! I want to fly!!!!

PS: Austin looks jealous. I may have to add some psychedelic flowers an piece signs soon.

Reinforced the main landing gear by tying wire to one wheel side, wrapping around the gear mount and then the other wheel. Stiffens it up very nice.

The front nose gear: I took a bolt and nut, drilled a .125 hole through the bolt. The drill the bolt diameter into the aluminum mount. Slid the bolt through the aluminum and locked it down tight. Next.....I took the landing nose and pushed it through the hole in the bolt and then locked down the turn buckle on the top. It all came together very well.

I am flying tomorrow.

Well done Dave,
I'm sure the decoration will make it look great. For nose weight, I tried a 4 cell nicad pack in the nose. OK I needed more up trim, but apart from that it seemed to fly the same.
Looking forward to the video.

Well done mate..its good to see you out flying again..I could'nt believe how quick that battery went flat..not much warning!!

The trick with the camera on the transmitter is to hold so that you can just see the gyro above it, keep your arms stiff and move your body so that you are always facing it. I have tried zooming in a little and it is really hard to follow It seems unnatural at first but you soon get the hang of it.

I think Mr Mud duck is going to be pleased..he may want it back...I love that orange colour

2 thumbs up

Regards Rich

It actually had a couple other flights that I edited out. lasted quite a while. 2 of the flights the controls got mushier and mushier. I got down in once piece, but the rotor plate had come loose!!!! OMG!!!!

You see? the one time you dont do your flight check list....could be the one time you smack it up!

There are still some things I need to work on to make her perfect, but for now, she performs well. For a 4 lb+ gyro, she floats!

Hi Dave,
You pretty much STINK at Rich's filming technique! I did have a good laugh though when the model was turning right, and you were applying maximum body english with the transmitter to assist in the attitdue corrections. Make another hat cam Brother.

Congrats on getting Bill's RPG to fly so well. It's a shame Bill couldn't get her going and enjoy it. Maybe he'll build another. I love the bright orange....very easy to see.

Take care man,

Sorry mate only joking Ií sure it is not easy trying to film with a camera strapped to your tranny, how Rich does it I just donít know.
Nice to see you out and about!
