Firehawk989
sorry, I can`t tell you the price for one kit inkl. shipping, because I´ve ordered a set of 2 of the small ones, and 2 of the 70" version, for me and friends. But if you ask for the price at NFD Hobby, they shurely will tell you. baddb1 nice, I also have one of the 70", but still in the box. I will try to get it flown with only 3 cells and a motor at 700 - 800KV and maybe a 12" 3 bladed prop. I missed the manual too. Could you please post some photos of your linkage for the landinggear / servomounts?? On the small A5, I set the CG between 1/3 (a bit more in front of) of the wing, measured from the leadingedge. I think this will work at the 70" version too. Jürgen |

There`s no need, to tape the cabin and after all flights, the woodparts in the fus were dry. If some water gets into the fus, there`s a kind of valve / outlet behind the step, as you can see in a photo few threads before. The water gets out when flying the model.........Same is in the 70" version.
With the flaps, the A5 flies very stable and they help for flying at lower speeds. Starting from water was easier. But I can only speak for the small version with the flaps. With the flaps, I do a little aileron up ( see in a photo) and there`s no need to mix elevator up, or down. Jürgen |

Hi all, I finally got 1800mm ICON A5. I asked local distributor who carries EPO 50 Rainbow from the same company to get one for me.
The box is lage but neatly packed. Wing front edge red is already painted. 6 page color manual with step by step photo, instruction in Chinese and English comes with it. If anybody wants, I will try to scan and mail tomorrow or Monday. Manual says CG is '75mm away from the front edge of the wing, which is located in the servo extension groove.' Manual photo shows low cost TowerPro SG91R 10g servos are used for moving surfaces. (I am not sure they are enough.) It specifically advises to use reliable metal servo HITEC 85MG for rudder/stairing and rectract. Satoru |

I sure wouldn't trust it to a 10g servo.
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=8760 It's 17g but has as much torque as a normal sized servo, and is $15.60 for members. Best of all, it's suppost to have seals, helping to protect it from water. It is rated very well by lots of people, the top couple of reviews are negative, but lots of people on the glider forums rave about them. I would run it on 5V, some of the neg reviews have run 6V and had problems. Does the manual list a wing area?? Also a wing width near the flaps? Thanks Ken update, Got a few of these, no seals, so must be waterproofed with grease and corrosion x, which worked fine. They are really strong servos, and currently working on my Neptune II .40 class seaplane. They are not quite as smooth as a full sized servo, but I can't feel it in the air. |

I measured the main wing area as 35.6dm2. (Root chord 22cm, taper starts at 50cm from root to 12cm chord at wing tip.). WCL will be 11.8 which is in the range of sport plane.
For me it is heavier than 1.63m span Multiplex Magister's 45dm2 I fly as float plane at 2.7kg with 600W or so power. I will need to give ICON more power. The main wing is thick and under cambered. (Good!) The main retract does not have lock, it will rely on nose retract's which will be linked together. Unlike manual stated, rudder and water rudder is already linkaged. Elevator servo extension is already wired. Canopy is already built. (it seems a tight fit to open from aft side only.) It is good to see center part of belly is protected by plastic already. I was expecting to cover it with glass but seems not needed. I think I can build it in shorter time than I thought. Thank you for info on 17g servo. Yes, I will stick to servo I am familiar with (Hyperion's or GWS in my case) and will not take risk here. Thanks. Satoru ImagesView all Images in thread

YES, that would be nice if you could scan manual! PM me. Thank you for the CG info. That is where I have it set now. I'm just waiting for calm weather for my second flight. BTW - Did you get a motor mount with yours? What motor do you plan to use? |

Hi Bill, Jürgen,
I mailed scaned manual from my gmail address. Please let me know if you did not get it. Yes, ply wood motor mount came with the kit. I have not decided on motor yet. I have Hyperion ZS3025-10 775-Kv motor and will calculate if it works with my available batteries. Thanks. Satoru |

Ssatoru: Thanks for the wing area numbers, esp since you actually measured the wings. I don't trust much else these days. Multiplex is a case in point, they list the twinstar at 650sq inches. I measured mine, the wing is only 26" on a side with a 9" width or 468sq inches. Even adding in the tail area and the wing buried in the fuse, they are still about 50 sq inches short, maybe they are counting the vertical tail???
An online conversion states 1sq dcm is 15.5 sq in , so 551sq in for the icon. I don't count the tail as it really dosn't add to lift. If the icon can be built for the avertised weight of 88oz, it should fly just fine on 600watts. My lanier mariner flew great with an eflight 32 a 4cell pack & 12X6 APC prop. 560 watts for a 100oz RTF plane. It would loop from level, climb nice, and do resonably short take offs. I spent most of the time at 2/3 throttle or less. Unless you want to prop hang or climb straight up, more power just adds weight and hurts real world flying performance. |
