I have had one on backorder at my LHS for over a month...

I have been trying to avoid this thread and other Rifle related media because it just makes me want it more.

I realise this is the "rifle" review thread, but there are a bunch more MUCH better speed 400 pylon racers for a little bit more money. Judging from the review, which is very well done and im not bagging the reviewer, but he is a newbie to speed 400 pylons, which in the case of the rifle is the target market I guess...

This is my voodoo (twice the price of the rifle) , rubbish video but it smokin fast and the wing doesnt fold even though its pushing 170mph.

Miro Urban Voodoo F5D-400 - Maiden Flight, STUPID FAST! (4 min 27 sec)

Even for $200US you go up several leaps in qaulity and preformance.

The Rifle is half the price and half the speed. As a first "fast" plane 170 mph may be a bit much to handle don't ya think?

As an example, you dont have to put big watts in it, the original idea was using a brushed speed400 motor with all of 80w and racing with a slick little airframe.

There heaps of speed 400 pylons out there that are better than the rifle, BUT they dont come with the shiny box or with greatplanes marketing. Sokol, Dynamic400, VIP, Slipso, voodoo, excite 400, pyro, quick, triffik, boomerang, adrenalin, stinger400, TM stinger, cavalino, cheetah etc etc etc

Prices range from $140US to $260US.

Im not bagging the rifle, but it is not the be all and end all of high performance speed 400 pylons! If your sick of being on backorder, or are worried about it staying in once peice, there are LOTS of arguably superior, with inferior boxes, airframes out there .

Sounds like you know what you are talking about. But I think you can make a similar argument for every model - Yak, Sukhoi, Extra and Edge out there too.

Well not really, its more along the lines of Lotus elise, Ariel Atom, Caterham 7, Ferrari F40, Aston Vantage, Daihatsu charade. There is a BIG jump is quality and performance. But the rifle is cheap.

Is this thing actually suitable as an entry-level F5D airplane or is it mostly a fast sport plane that resembles an F5D racer?

Thanks for the link. It doesn't say "in stock" or "not". After alot of reading, I'm not sure if the Rifle would hold up to the kind of speed I want. It looks like I may as well spend a few more bucks and get something that will.

Maybe this http://www.soaringusa.com/products/p...ategory_id=265

Or this http://icare-rc.com/snipp.htm

I'm wanting something a tad bigger than 28-30 inches. Even though it will take a little more $$ to push it around.

And GH adds shipping and tax...I'm just not sure I want to purchase from Canada.

"Fast sport plane that resembles a racer" is a good way to put it.

Great review, as always, and a good read, but the plane isn't my cup of tea.
