57" DH Mosquito

I recently found a set of plans for a P. Noel designed Mosquito. I enlarged the plans to a 57 inch wingspan and cut out the patterns so I could convert this design into a profile plane made from FFF foam.

I decided to use a KFm 2 airfoil rather than the full airfoil as on the plans for ease of construction. The fuselage is made from 4 layers of FFF with two pieces of flat CF embeded in the middle two layers. The middle two layers also form the vertical stab. The front of the fuselage going back around the wing mount area is covered with 1/16 inch ply for added strength. The stearable tail wheel is from a Parkzone Corsair and the main gear are from an E-Flite Deuces Wild. The tail wheel is 1 1/2 inches and the main wheels are 3 1/2 inches to more resemble the scale wheel sizes.

The ESCs and the batteries are all hidden under the motor pylons.

The color scheme is for a Mosquito night fighter from 1942 out of the 23rd Squadron.

The P. Noel plans are also provided and I would like to thank him for the excellent design.

The specs for the plane are:

Motors: Headsup 2830-11 (1150 Kv)
Props: EP 9x5 (the picture shows 11x7s)
ESCs: Turnigy Plush 30 A
RCVR: Corona RP4S1
Servos: HXT 900
Batteries: FlightMax 3S 1800

The AUW is 53.5 ounces.

Each of the motors runs at 16 Amps at 11.1 volts giving 355.2 watts total for 106.2 watts/pound. This should provide good scale speed capability.

The maiden will be this week if the weather clears and the winds die down.
