Tony.
Standart Alula + 30 gram ballast at the back.

And at the Lønstrup slope, I use 60 gram ballast to get the drive.

Is that a hill with no frontside? If so how are you getting some height for the initial dive in?

There is a round 40 feet slope at the frontside, but in front of that there is another round hill, so not the best slope.
Just enough to keep it going, and waiting for a little termals to get that little extra high for the start speed to DS.

So we dive into the rotor with just enough momentum to make it back to the frontside....again and again....without ever gaining any speed.

Come on is that DS?

I've had many aborted slope landings that look just like these video circuits. I may do it twice in a row and join the DS club.

Ok, but I'll post it late in the evening because whoever watches it is going to fall asleep.

I'm sure he appreciates your film criticism but I don't think it was made to compete with the latest blockbuster. I believe it is to give inspiration to those of us who are looking for places that are capable of supporting DS and to that end it works perfectly. Maybe you should re-read the OP's question.

Here's a small site I've been playing around with. Not as small as some of the ones you guys are flying. It's a headland with about a 10m steep slope out front. The top where I DS it is pretty much flat. It drops off further back but I can't find any energy back there. Maybe with a cleaner heavier plane it might work better I'm guessing the trees on the edge of the lip really help to create a better/higher shear layer. Launch is over an electric fence and through a gap in the trees so the plane has to pretty much go straight up otherwise you'd lose sight of it. Hence the reason I've only flown light foamies there. There's a tree just to the left of the bottom turn which makes things exciting if you turn too late

The site definitely works. I'd like to see a better pilot flying it to see how much speed they could get.

Here's a vid my brother took of me trying the site out for the very first time earlier this year. Plane is a ~20oz Moth (RIP, lost at sea ).

Come on Jordan, that just looks like one "diving through the rotor into an aborted landing" after the other, you call that DSing? Why, your wings didn't even fold up.Get outta here.
Just pulling your leg. I'm really liking this thread and the vids. Good to see the sort of things can be DSed with a bit of imagination. I'm thinking of trying the local Bunnings carpark next northerly

certified insomniac
these little vids rock
not everyone has access to huge ds sites and
it takes a different kinda skill to work something
that only has ultra narrow band of workable air
and lotsa turbulance
you guys look like you are haveing a blast
makes me wana get an alula or weasel
keep them coming guys A+ for entertainment value
may this thread never die

LOL I guess people are just used to watching 400mph DS vids.

Carpark DS definitely sounds like fun. It must be brutal on the planes (and any cars that get in the way).
