Havent done much flying recently, end of winter here (last weekend of winter actually!)
But the wasp is still going strong I rekon 150mph would still be sweet, its a pretty rigid little plane. Dunno if an F5D setup would be the way though, 4" prop would get eaten up by the 35mm spinner. Maybe something a bit lower kV with a 6x6 or so. |

My Wasp turned up yesterday, what a sweet looking plane. Mines orange/blue.
I'll probably just start with the motor it came with (Emax BL2220/07 400watt outrunner) on 3s and go from there... Also ordering a Turnigy 480L V-Spec 1370kv Inrunner for the next step up with some 4s packs. Got to get me some servos and folding prop bits so I can get it flying. Can't wait. |

That turnigy 480L might be a bit big for the wasp, its pretty long and might hamper getting the packs in. I did some testing on it, try search the motors thread for the details. |

Yep I've seen your posts on testing it. That's what made me enthused about the motor. I was guestimating with a bit of extrapolation that a 9x7 on 4s might get me around 700 watts. A bit more twist with a +5 centrepiece maybe another 100 watts.... |

Had some stuff turn up.
Seems like battery access will be fine with the turnigy 480L. Problem is my new esc, (turnigy plush 60a) the thing is friggen huge. Will fit with 3 cells no problem, but I'll need to rethink the 4 cell packs I was considering (2200 45c nanotechs) for something flatter and wider. What is the best way to put in the servos? Heatshrink them and epoxy in place? Still have to go shopping for pushrod hardware. |

Awesome little plane.
I'm only running around 300 watts atm, but geez it moves along. Amazing how it glides about as fast as a 46 gas plane flies along. Need to move the CG back more as it levels out in power off 45 degree downlines. Currently about 50mm. My setup: Emax 2220-07 1200kv, BB spinner, 9x7 Aeronaut Cam Carbon blades, Align BL35G esc, Flightmax 3S 35C 2100 cells, MKS DS470 MG digital servos, Dubro 2-56 Clevises and rods, Rhino 2S 610 receiver pack with Hobbywing 3A UBEC. I'll leave it another week or so before I worry about putting in the Turnigy 480L. Not sure about stuffing in 4S packs, bad enough with 3S with lack of room. Might need to rethink my layout. Only got one pic someone else took out at the club. The photo doesn't do the orange justice, she glows in real life. Need to find my camera, and get a few more pics. |

Thread bump to get this plane back where it deserves too be!
Been flying it a lot, love it. Its well behaved enough to be the "warmup" plane, but after a few red bulls it'll take anything you can throw at it! Turns like a crazy thing, rolls surprising spritely and flies soooo crisply. Ive yet to see the wings flex, full noise dives and heavy yanking on the stick, its a very rigid slippery little airframe. Its more rigid than my voodoo. My only gripe with it would be, put a bigger battery hatch and a rudder on it. Its screaming for more power (the airframe could easily handle 1kW+) and a rudder would be awesome for some high energy spins |

Yup, it'd work and fit well, be easy to balance too.
What'd be cool to try, would be a 16/15/3, heatsinked, (or 3E for a bit more safety/sanity) on 4S. That'd move Its seriously a great flying airframe, it'd still be a hoot at power levels as low as 300W |

Mibo E-Osa
My E-Wasp is powered by cheap Turnigy 3542-1250kV motor, Plush 60A ESC and 3S Rhino 2250mAh 40C Lipo cells. Total weight is 910g.
With Aeronaut 11x10 floding prop and Aeronaut spinner with +2,5° pitch it goes 190km/h in horizontal flight (measured with Eagletree Airspeed indicator). On the ground my Wattmeter shows consuption max. 75A, but it quicky drops to around 65A (fully charged Batteries) Great plane, but fuselage is to weak under the wings and around the canopy. A little harder landing and it starts to crack. Some carbon fiber solves the problem Otherwise is build well. Yes, the fit is tight, but if you put the motor in the position, that the cables are at the bottom, where is a little bulge, then you can get it in.
60A ESC is on the side of the fuselage, about 6cm after the motor. When the battery is inside they are in contact, but because ESC is only a little warm after the flight, there is no problem with that. I will make a foto and post it, later! |
