Converting an old NiCad Zagi 400X to lipo

The first question should I do it?
I stopped using the Zagi a few kids ago (a good 4-5 years ago) and I am now getting back into flying. I think,,,, my 3 NiCad battery packs are toast so I was going to but some new ones and someone said I should look at going the LiPo route.
What do I need to get? Lipo Battery, ESC, Motor,????
it is expensive to make the conversion?
If someone had done this,(yes, I tried searching but nothing came up) please give me some help.
Is it worth it??
Thanks a ton

I'd overhaul the entire power system. You can get a hot setup to double or tripple the speed and power for less than $60

If your 400X is stock you'll need at least 3 CF spars to keep the wing from flapping if you go brushless. They can be added easily.

400x

My 400X is on its third rebuild. The motor is a rewound blue wonder with an 18 amp ESC from Hobby King and a 1000 mAh 3c lipo. The biggest up grade you can do is dump the winglets and go with a double inboard tail like the Wild Wing. No more Zagi death spirals! I now have to work hard to get the wing to spin, it just gives a clean stall break and drops the nose. I also made an EPP foam pocket for the battery in the nose. The receiver and ESC are hot glued in.

this might be a better chose on esc 10 dollars more better bec inside.

and you can run a 6x4 (around 32 amps) but I would use throttle management. 5x5 (around 25amps) prop might not get you full vertical.

if this zagi goes to fast you will get the zagi flap, that is why the extra spars are required,

Spars should be in a aframe set up one down the middle and one each down the le of the wing about 1 to 2 inches back.. straping tape and packing tape will still likely flap.. but i suppose is worth a try..
