Crimson, my home designed 2 meter woody (plans added for free download)

Hi all,
Am new here and my name is Patrick, coming from China. My first post here is my just finished 2meter woody, named after the lovely Crimson Rosella originated in Australia.
I build this tiny bird from drawing board, with total building time logged less than 50 hours. All materials used are balsa, Tong and pine wood. with simple R/E control, this bird demonstrates easy handling characteristics and thermals quite well. I use a couple of scrap Futaba 3003 standard servo for control and a cheap AM 2 channel radio, NO PROBLEM at all!
Wingspan: 1950mm
Wingcord: 220mm
Airfoil: modified SD 7037
Length: 1080mm
Weight: 750g
Here I enclose some pictures taken during the construction plus finished model, wish you like it.

PLEASE NOTE! On page 6 there are all plan necessary in PDF files for anyone who interested in this bird to download

Congratulations with a beautiful model and the great work! What sort of battery are you using? (Building a plane at nearby same size.)

well...simple 5 cell NiMH 1800mh 6V pack is used, think its more than adequate for such a plane.

Hi Patrick
Your new glider is about as nice as one could build just perfect looking in design and crafsmanship , one question is what did you use to cut the lighting slots and holes in your wing ribs. I have a super light woody 3M on the drawing board and would like to cut the ribs just like you have done, i too will use cap strips. In the photo of your knife and razor plane i was wondering what is the white item in the center, did you stack cut & sand your ribs and put in the lighting slots that way or one at a time. Can you let us know how she flys , thanks.
Its pretty neat how 2 people 1/2 way around world from each other can have the same ideas about a scratch built bird i too will use transperent red i will have some black trim, very cool stuff this sailplane building & flying
Sincerely
Don

Probably the RIT dye trick on a clear canopy. Make up a solution of whatever color, then dip and keep dipping until the degree of tint is reached.

I'll let the OP confirm or disclose his method.

I used a transparent spray paint on mine. Worked much better than dye. I found it in the R/C car section of my LHS.

Don't want to hijack the thread, but I always heard that the Rit dye trick was difficult to do because of the chance of warping the plastic in the hot water.

I just used it warm for a Paragon canopy and let it set overnite to dye it yellow.

A super nice job on this plane!!! Fuse reminds me a little of a shark (fish). I'd like to hear some flight reports.

The water doesn't have to be boiling just hot. Tap water always worked for me. I've died several canopies (OK, it was a long time ago) and never had a problem with warping. I always died them before cutting them free of their base. Just pour the hot die mix into the inside of the canopy and let it stand for awhile. Pour it out and repeat until you get the tint you like. Quite simple really.
