Lousy day for AP

Just fixed up my Slowstick for AP. Took it out with camera on a street to help a friend get an aerial picture of his house. One crazy woman yell at me while I was trying to land the plane on a narrow street. Well, it crashed. Broke the fuselage tube, broke the elastic band on the wing. I came home without a picture to show.

To get my frustration out of my system..... Here's some older pictures with Zagi and GSmart Mini 3

Yeowch. How come no pictures survived the crash? Is your camera OK?? What a bummer.
What happened, did you zig when you should have zagged, or did the old lady just have you totally razzled?

I was trying to fly in a small street. I was nervous about the trees on the sides. After the plane was in the air, I realized that I forgot to delete the old picture in the camera. So, I nervously try to put the plane down between the trees. The lady yelling was just enough to distract me. Luckily, it didn't get caught on the tree.

EBird, you have some very unusual flying sites. How did you handle the small landing zone?

There was quite a bit of city haze in the sky. There was no problem with focus.

That's what I love so much about the SlowStick, you can just about land it in a pickup truck bed.
Sometimes I fly in areas where I really don't have a decent place to land, and so I have to catch it. With some practice, it's not hard.

Usually, though, if I have at least some sage brush or something similar, I just sort of "plop" it down on that. Just the slightest breeze makes landings almost vertical with the SS. I pull up that the last second and it just plops down. If I'm over asphalt, I can't get away with this, so I just make sure I'm landing into the wind and rollout is pretty short.

I still need more practice on spot landing with slowstick. It's hard to control the plane in slow floating speed. The rudder doesn't work very well at slow speed.
This am, it got caught on tree, trying to land it on a small street. Luckily it was low. Those trees have some sort of magnetic attraction to slowstick.

Hmmm. I wonder if your have your rudder control throws at maximum. You may want to check your transmitter.
Also, did you drill a new hole in the rudder control horn closer in?
Also make sure you're using the outermost hole on the servo arm.
This will greatly increase the rudder travel.

The reason I say all this is because I have no trouble at all controlling mine at very slow speeds.

Here's a shot of my rudder travel, which is quite adequate.

My rudder doesn't deflect as much as yours. I did add an extension to the rudder. I'll try to modify it a bit more.
Nice catch on the video.

I don't think you'd ever get enough rudder throw without this mod.

Once you get the rudder throw to about 45, I don't think you'll need extra rudder surface. I've never added to my rudder, and never needed to, even with all the nutsy places I fly.
