Just wanted to write some words of thanks to CaptJac for spending time with me at the Pheonix Flight School last night.

Jac's flexibility (Germany to Australia is a fair time delta) and good humour allowed us to while away nearly 2hr while we reset all the Pheonix and DX7s settings to get me back on track. Amazing how fast the time goes..... Thanks CaptJac.
Anybody looking for a helping hand would be hard pressed to do better than take a lesson from CaptJac.

I think my understanding of D/R & Expo gained a few notches. l'm going to try a few settings just for fun.
Knowing what effect they will have on the (correctly setup) sim will show me what they actually do (and hopefully avoid a potential crash) on the real thing.

Freshly enthused, l went to the LHS today (heli specialist) and picked up a kit - TRex500 Pro DFC & Ikon.
That should keep me busy while Pheonix sorts out the basics.....

So I just installed and updated to the latest version of Phoenix RC and it's my first time using a sim but I've managed to partially setup my Devo 8S tx however the throttle is not smooth. When I move the throttle/pitch stick up it's 100% on... there's no gradual increase. Can someone help me figure this out?

throttle

I am a mere rookie myself waiting on my copy of Phoenix now. However I downloaded clearview while I wait. Sounds like you might need to adjust your throttle curve in the devo or you might have to go Into device settings in Windows and calibrate before you open phoenix. Hope that helps, good luck.

The throttle curve on my tx is linear which is the default curve like every other tx....0,25,50,75,100. Am I supposed to change it in the sim too? Also Pheonix has a built in calibration already. BTW what is clearview?

The throttle curve in your transmitter must be linear for Phoenix to calibrate correctly. Recommend to start from scratch and do a Setup new transmitter in the systems menu. Make sure to center the left stick before starting the Move all sticks to extents. Moving the left stick in a 360 (touching all corners) you should see 3 separate channels moving up and down - the throttle - the collective pitch - and the rudder channels. They should all move from bottom to top - smoothly - and linear. If they don't - you need to look at the monitor channel in your transmitter. If everything is normal in your transmitter - complete the calibration (left stick and right stick and continue until you reach the end and click on advanced and do the Advanced calibration where each channel is separately defined and calibrated. If it still doesn't calibrate there may be a compatibility issue with Phoenix and your transmitter. I don't see your transmitter listed on their compatibility list - although that doesn't guarantee it is or isn't compatible. Only thing you can really do is test it. If it doesn't play - you may need another transmitter - all the Spektrum transmitters work fine. The DX4 and DX5 are non-programmable and relatively cheap.

The sample versions of FAQs 101 and 102 are in your mailbox.

Hello CaptJac that worked! The problem was the left stick was not centered before I started the extents calibration. I also received the FAQs Thank you!

Just wanted to post to say to say a massive thanks to CaptJac for his time last night. We had our first session lasting about an hour and a half. It was a complete blast and the Captains enthusiasm and good humor made the time fly (no pun intended) by.

During the session we set up Phoenix to be a better representation of the real thing. CaptJac doesn't just tell you what the settings are but explains why always relating them back to the real thing. Make sure you do your home though he asks questions to get you're brain working. Before the session I had been playing around with the T-Rex 500 which is the model you use and I was able to get it to hover of sorts. But after last night it's a totally different beast and I am now having to learn to get it airborne again. I am taking that as a positive though as it replicates the issues I was having on the real flying field in the morning.

I certainly have a better understanding of the subject and would urge everyone especially those like myself who are new to the hobby to take up CaptJacs kind offer. You want regret it guaranteed.

Congrats Capt Jac on this thread making #1000....

Quick update on my 'training' since our last (first) lesson. I'm feeling better able to get a stable hover 'started' and can keep a hover within a small radius in front of me. By 30secs though, it is starting to drift off - always right

So l charged the batteries for the nano CPx and gave that another go. Previously that thing darted around like a thing posessed. More enjoyable now. Trying to keep it tail in is also a battle!

So with new enthusiasm l went out to buy my first 'outdoor' heli. A Trex 500FBL w/Ikon. That build is motivation to keep up the Pheonix training too.

Capt Jac, you got me hooked !!
Thanks

setup

Capt jack I just installed phoenix n but don't know when I'll have time to try and setup my first lesson I've seen other people ask for setup sheets to help get started, if they do exist I would love a copy. I already bought and read faq 1 & 2 they were very helpful, now excited to get started with phoenix and really your school. Thanks from all of us you have helped.

Need help?

Just finished a Capt Jac session with the Phoenix simulator.
The experience was just like having an instructor sitting next to you watching your every move. Everything I needed help with was addressed, explained and "put to bed."
It is now very clear to me what I need to do for the next session. Capt Jac was patient, understanding and supportive.

Having issues with your heli training? Do yourself a favor and sign up for a lesson, tune-up or a "nudge."
All the best,
Lawrence

Had my first session with CaptJac last night and 2 hours went by really fast! Thanks so much CaptJac.

He guided me in setting up the Phoenix simulator, the whole time explaining what the setting was for and why set it as such. It became a simulator that was difficult to control to a tamed trainer, knowing too that these same settings can be transferred to my transmitter and taming my heli as well. Anybody still hesitating in taking lessons with CaptJac, do your self a favor and jump right into it. You won't regret it.

I really appreciate your help and guidance CaptJac and I'm looking forward to our next session.

Willie
