There isn't too much information about the engine, but from what I've read they are good value and Sig is eager to offer warranty replacements.

Some buyers have had tuning issues (rcu thread) but I have an Aviastar .46 that has been great right from the start. Seems to have more power than my Evolution .46. I'd recommend it for the price.

No problems with mine. I am well satisfied with performance and price. Do use a lot of Castor with it and I found an idle bar glow plug the best as it gave an outstanding low idle. SIG seems to advise using the idle bar plugs even though they are well out of vogue for general use.

I have broken in and flown the Aviastar .46 from Sig Mfg. The ones I've worked with haven't had the bad carburetor problem others have reported (transition is bad no matter how lean you make the low end). The ones I've broken in and tuned have been good to go right from the box.

It may have been a happy coincidence that I often use Fox R/C Long glow plugs for my two stroke engines. They have an idle bar, and the Aviastar .46 definitely liked the plug.

I'd certainly buy another Aviastar .46 or .53 again for the right project. They're quite user friendly and reliable with the right fuel (low nitro and plenty of castor oil) and the right glow plug. They also seem to deliver plenty of power.

Pre-lube it, make sure everything runs ok by hand and fire it up!

wd-40, castor oil, whatever. Just to loosen up the engine.

Just remember WD-40 is a solvent, not a lubricant. It does have some slick stuff in it but that is used to drive off moisture. Its okay to use, just remember it is not a lubricant. It may indeed loosen up a stuck engine but after that use some oil, tranny fluid or whatever besides WD-40.
