No way to bury the retract deeper?
Still looks good Rodger, just like this classic.

yeah it could be buried deeper and i drew the templates that way ,you will have to make the strut longer so you have the right amount of AOA i comp. to make it easier ...longer strut mean a longer door and a longer piece of wirethat shows ...loading up a servo and mocking up the fan and ducting ,and looking at C/G

With those retracts you have, they are best suited so the force from the wheel-to-runway contact pushes into the steering arm tab (i.e.- the gear swing aft)... be careful with how much play there is in there with it retracting forward, too much and it will try to pull the arm out of the tab... I've had problems with mine pulling out if I forced it too much that way, especially after drilling them out to 1/8" and with a little play in there. Nothing a little thick CA and kicker in there won't fix for the time being, but just be advised. And tightening up the cables won't remedy it...

ok all the major design issue have been resolved .i got the fan rail mount done and i mocked it all up with my wemo "long " glass tail pipe (which are awsome looking units) just need to hysol all tacked up wood parts in . still looking at the steering servo location ,that the next hurdle. but the hard stuff is over . it's a lot of work to take a exsisting kit and change just about every thing but the outter mold line ....and im going to do that later after we fly it on the stock wing

AS, you could copy this technique in the pic for your steering servo... You could get away with mounting it to the side and/or using only one 'wrap around' tube for both cables.

TS yeah im looking at attaching the servo to my nose gear cradle ,i'll be able to reach into the area with a ball driver to adj the steering cables .i need to make a hobby shop run to get some small brass tubing and a couple of EZ connectors.and i got to find my cable ...i think C/N barrow a bit of it so now i ned to find it ...hmmm where did i put it
