I know a fellow in Victoria who has one that won't work - he's looking for another for parts. Perhaps might free up some crystals.

The Ace Nautical Commanders were the unit of choice back in the late 1980's, and I don't know why they stopped making them.
True, they had a number of repair issues, but that didn't deter too much from their popularity. |

After Ace ceased production, someone else was supposed to have come out with a similar radio system, but didn't, because of a copyright infringement or something.
I think it may have been Thunder Tiger? |

Ace Nautical Commander Radio
Yes!
Thunder Tiger has been dragging their knuckles for several years saying that they were coming out with a new Nautical Commander FM radio but so far has taken the path of less resistance by manufacturing the overly popular 2.4G radios. The problem with these radios is they can't be used for rc submarines.TT had a prototype image of the FM radio on their website for years but has yet to produce the model.Just got off the phone with the Ace distributors and they still do not have a clue as to the manufacturer's plan to build the radios.ACE HOBBY DISTRIBUTORS, INC Tel: 949-833-0088 Here is the Thunder Tiger web page with the Nautical Commander comments : http://www.thundertiger.com/question/768.html Here is the page with the photo and specs of the radio : http://www.acehobby.com/ace/ACE8701.htm Regards, John |

Have you thought about converting to 2.4ghz? I converted mine about a year ago and have had ZERO issues. The conversion only took about 1.5 hrs and never need crystals again. Note 2.4ghz will not work for subs. If interested look under the radio thread for Assan Hack thread.

jaguar75: I have an old inoperative “Ace Nautical Commander Radio” I will give it to you. Right now, I am out of town, will be back in town Friday. I use to sail with your model yacht club (SMYC). My yacht was #146 ODOM, SMYC no longer sail this class. I have bought a new Seawind but I haven’t put it together yet, will start sailing when I get it together. Ralph
