Just a couple inches to the right and you would have made it. Still, nice video. How did the left wing do?

The wing came off cleanly since it was only pinned in from the top. Had to glue it in to make it fly again.

Just wondering when fitting the spar cover should I glue it on or could I just use reinforced tape? My load will be basic FPV, 2200 lipo (ps installed a 4mm CF rod inside the stock 6mm spar). Thanks/

Glue the spar cover in place - Especially for FPV which will have a large wing load and therefore stress on the spar to push the cover off. It is just too risky to use tape even though there are many very fine choices out there. CA Glue beats them all IMO.

I would sure like to be sometimes, it rains too much out here! I spent some time around Poughkeepsie about 30 or 40 years ago working for IBM and really liked the area. I recognized Wappingers Falls right off. I wish I could have made it up to Rhinebeck when things were happening. When I went there it was closed.

Your video makes me think you might have been watching Crazy Horst's videos.

CG on a Bixler 1.1

Hi.

The instructions on the Bixler 1.1 state that the CG is 71mm from the leading edge of the wing.

Does anyone have any other experience?

From the first page of this thread:

1. CG for Sky Surfer (all versions V1, V2, and V3) and Bixler should be 60mm from LE of wing. The CG for the Sky Surfer V4 should be 71mm-thanks to Hayabusa for the update from his manual.

Yes thanks.

I ask because several things have been changed in the Bixler 1.1 and the manual does say very explicitly 71mm. Perhaps the Bixler 1.1 is more similar to the SkySurfer V4 ?

I didn't get a response to my radio question so I figured it out myself

got a 7c on eBay for 180us with receiver, works great. chaperones much simpler than dx6i

observations from the frankenplane that started zs bixler 1.1:

had massive nose up issues on half power. when turning in a glide, the tail would sag (no input). and the float the plane seemed draggy.

first in reaped the thing with smooth tape.
then I played with additional ballast and ended up adding 12 oz at cg
the cg
moved the cg front a bit too.
trimmed the wings, stab and rudder.

seems to fly more solid, better penetration, slightly less affected by gusts from side. with a 3s 2200mah I fly for almost 20min, cruise at little less than half throttle with slight breeze.

oh and until I have an fpv setup I am sticking that cheapo Casio up there too.

yesterday went up in a bit of a wind. cg misadjusted (nose heavy) and wind from the side. slap on head. ditched in tall grass after 10 yrs. 2nd try and it was up.

the wind was so strong that on full throttle I could sloooooowly climb and make headway into the wind. turning was interesting, as was seeing how fast the wind took the plane with it.

after 6 min my 9yr old managed to mangle his thumb with his pocket knife. blood was dripping, so that was the end of the outing.

oh the clipped wings make it a little hotter, it rolls much easier. inverted is always a near crash - and then I noticed the stab servo is stripped. I stuck a 3004 on outside the fuse, looks horrible, but works (9g servos on order)

now I am all over this forum for the right fpv gear. I am leaning toward an entry-level 900mhz kit from hobbyking, but with an osd I can keep.

I figure I can later put that rig into another plane or car.

still digesting the cost of goggles, and wondering whether it's smarter to start with a 7in LCD setup

thoughts?

First, you might want to read page #1 - posts #2 and #3 to get whatever info you can use from them.
Second, for FPV, I recommend this thread:
https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show....php?t=1533848
ilovefpv (the thread boss) is very knowledgeable and all the guys there can be very helpful for the SkyS FPV folks. Happy Flying.
