They say a picture is worth an thousand words so I guess a well made video is worth 10,000.
Here is a good video explaining ESC's

Motor extension leads -

Common are XT-60 (3.5 mm pins) connectors on batteries. My Bixler came with 3.5 mm male pins on the motor. If you are going to make extension leads you will need male and female 3.5 mm pins to try and keep things consistent. To do it you need the male & female pins, heatshrink tubing ~5 mm, soldering iron, solder, hotair gun and obviously, some wire. A short length of mains cable should be suitable, especially as in USA the current carrying requirement is twice that in a lot of the rest of the world (110 v vs 240 v).

As soon as anyone moves away from RTF they need to have a wide range of "skills". Mechanical, electrical, etc. to at least a basic level.

Hey Now,
Gyros were what helped me not give up on this flying RC planes thing. I crashed the first 9 times I tried. Power glider 'Sky Surfer' Easiest plane to fly there is. I draped it in gyros to help with the 10 to 15 mph wind I was learning to fly in. The wind in SW Florida blows from Jan to June so I learned to fly in the wind thanks to gyros.

I have a bunch of gyros now 3ea. Esky 704's rate only, Two Detrum 48Y something (I don't like those, they make my servos chatter).

All three of my planes (Two of which I've never flown) will now be equipped with the 'Eagle 3A rate only gyros.

In the new Sky surfer I'm wanting to put it in the canopy. If you would look at these photos and tell me if you think I can do this;

Try this, it will let you use seperate ail servos as well

Sculptor if your canopy comes loose you will loose control of the aircraft with that mounted there, fix it to the fuse.

For the BEST performance the gyros should be close to CG as possible, though I am sure it will work in that location I think you would be better off putting it inside the fuse at about the center of where the wings come together (where I have my FY31AP located), plus having things attached to the canopy like that gets annoying too .

Is that one of those Eagle A3 flight stabilizer? How do you like it?

I was looking at them on eBay and they are about $36 so I wasn't sure if the lower price meant lower performance.

I would like to get one of the Eagle Tree Guardian Stabilizer for $75 but they are out of stock everywhere including directly from Eagle Tree.

Eagle, I'll fly it today and let you know. I sure hope it will work there, it so convenient to be able to pop the top, flip it adjust the three pots.
I bought 3 of these from HK for 20.00 ea.

I was considering getting a gyro to make my maiden flight a littler easier (I need to order a few really small things from HK and this will help fill the box). I was going to get This HK-401B. Is this a good choice or is yours a better solution?

Shimmy I'm not an experienced adviser on this. I will say this I flew three gyros in the V-3 SS. I didn't like the two Detrum 48Y rate/headlock gyros (the one you pointed to is a headlock gyro) you need one for each control surface three in all.

The Detrum 48Y and the one your pointing to have 'gain' wires that have to be connected to your chanel 5 and the other on ch 6 and there on knobs on your tx.
I found adjusting them in flight was not fun, if you turn the knob too far (past 12:00) you just went from 'rate' mode to 'headlock' mode which you don't want on a plane.

Here is were my heads at the moment; I'll have an Eagle 3X (not the 3X pro because I don't want to adjust them from my tx) 3 axis board on all my planes and when I need help from them I'll set them to 'on' and use them.

Thanks. I read more and realized that you are correct. These need the gain connected to your Aux channel, which does allow you to turn it on and off. However since I have a 4 channel Tx, I don't think that I can use it. If I am wrong I would appreciate being corrected.

I found the Eagle Micro Aeroplane Flight Controller Board A3 on Ebay. for $37. Is this the same idea as the OrangeRX 3-Axis Flight Stabilizer on HK for $15 ? If so I would probably get that.

Thanks for the advice.

I'm not sure how to link back to another thread. It's "Using gyros on a plane post #2428 by 'Melnic' he is a major figure on gyros. He is saying something about the limitations of the orange 15.00 gyro but I don't understand it. Maybe you can get what you need from there or someone on this thread might explain it.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

How did you make out with you test flight with the Eagle A3?

I also so on another thread that there is a Pro version of the A3. Which one do you have?
