If you want to use this downstairs then go with your hard hat idea, no doubt you can rig some type of jig or fixture to mount it with. FP's suggestion looks mighty tempting though, but if you decide to swap around with upstairs then you may need to upgrade the motor on the Bixler.

Okeydoke....got it, & tip o' the hat to Ron, Ozzy & esp. AJ (& yes I think I do - ouchy! )
Not what the question was all about but, FWIW: Anybody looking for stock 5x3 prop replacements, Banana's got 'em, 2 pcs for $4.50, their p/n ap7605: http://www.bananahobby.com/ap7605.html Also wanted to make sure the SS stock adapter wasn't different from the Bix; mine measures 6.8mm so if they're NOT identical, surely close enough to use SS props on the Bix. Also, as told before, to use the stock adapter on other props, a 17/64 (.2656") drill bit equals 6.747mm & makes for about a perfect fit. One caution - drill first (& carefully!), balance after. Thanx again, & you're all nice guys....I don't care what Gene says about'cha! |

Great maiden and flight. No porposing, just graceful turns. Your video quality is excellent and still relatively well framed. Regarding the yaw -- If you trimmed it out then ignore the following. Here is what comes to mind: 1. Crosswind. 2. Thrust angle is off. The motor should be centered and only have down thrust. 3. Is the motor flexing in the mount area? My hot rod Microdan SS post crash had the motor mount nacelle break off. When I glued it back on all the foam was very "tenderized" and flaccid. That is, when I went to wide open the motor downthrust would change. It was simply floppy. I had to inject it with hot glue to strengthen it again and I wrapped the nacelle with 3M Extreme tape. 4. The last possibility is a servo pot on the aileron or rudder is acting up when you power up and moving causing the yaw. I would check the rudder servo first by holding the plane and going wide open and see if the servo moves by itself. Be careful! |

Glad to help. There's another set too....ParkZone's #PKZ4122. This one's got 4 threaded rods w/metal clevis, either one plenty long enough (~2ea 5.5", a 1ea 11.5 & 12.5") & the longer two with sleeves around the main shaft, also dirt cheap. Good to have around for emergency repairs.

As to solutions, it wasn't a crosswind as there wasn't really any wind that day although it crossed my mind when I asked. The motor and setup is the RTF setup, minus some CF and HXT900's on the rudder and elevator. I doubt it's powerful enough to do much but I'll check on it just in case, as well as the servo pots. That should be easy enough to do. Now I can move on to do my logging tests and see what the temps and current are with the stock prop vs. APC 6x4 pusher vs. 6x4e e-Bay prop as well as ESC BEC vs. UBEC. That'll take some setup work but should be worth checking the data out once I'm finished. |

Yes - VERY nice flight. That cam does a nice job too. It's surprising how sensitive those tiny little mics can be....to be no bigger than the one in my key-cam (saw it while inside) I was amazed at the sound it catches.
Couldn't tell enough to offer any real help with the right turning. Try dialing in (with clevis setting) a tiny bit of left rudder & see if that works. |

No, just one at a time. Some high density EPP foam and hot glue gun and voila, I have a very geeky hat.
