I finished up the other plane I was building so I can now move on to the Skysurfer. I suppose I should charge the batteries for my digital camera and capture the build.

I need a collet for the motor. The smallest I have is 3 mm. Who carries 2.3 mm prop collets?

I bought the 3/16" or .188 Carbon Fiber tube at my local kite shop -- Kites and Fun Things. They have a website.

Below are the pictures.
Ditto on this. I found that a 5mm OD CF tube from HobbyKing fit inside the stock spar perfectly. I just had to cut a couple inches off of the 5mm tube. Super stiff now...

Hmm, the tube that fits mine is .188 inch or 4.76 mm. So much for J Power using the same CF supplier or the same size CF. Did you measure the HK CF tube with a caliper or is that what they said it was?

I think in the name it says 2.3mm. Guess it wouldn't hurt to email them for info.

The link you sent to me didn't have that information. I backed up one level with all the adapters and it does say 2.3 mm. That will work.

I still used the stock adapter with APC 6x4 E prop. I just reamed out the prop with a prop reamer.

Wing retention

I liked bradsears use of 3M Command Strips so I picked up some at my local hardware.

Clean the surface with rubbing alcohol and stick on to surface. Hold firm for 30 seconds. Wait 1 hour to build adhesion. And bingo you have a hook for a rubber band.

The dowels on the side prevent eating into the foam when wrapping the rubber bands around the corner.

This setup really works. That is, it holds the wings in place but if whacked the wings will deflect.

Nice job. I like that even better than the Velcro I used on mine.
I will use that idea on the WH in the upgrade shop.

Control horns and tape hinges

The control horns, as noted by everybody who has one, are pretty flimsy so I replaced mine with Dubro nylon control horns. Cat. No. 237. I cut off the last two positions to match the throw on servos.

The foam hinges are stiff and will eventually fail. I used 3M Extreme tape to hinge the ailerons after working the stiffness out of the foam.

That's just what HK says it is. I'll have to measure it to see if it is 5mm or smaller.

Who knows what you'll get in these kits or from China. You and I may have two different size wall thickness in the CF tubes that came with our kit.
