So im looking to start into this hobby again (had an original hobbyzone firebird back when i was younger) and i noticed the sky surfer v5. It looks like everything i want in a plane, (larger, DURABLE AS ALL HELLx2, 5 channel, easy flying, possible to attach a gopro to, and room for a larger battery for long flights) except i have a few questions.

Is the onboard electronics all one board? or does it have a removeable reciever, esc, etc for possible future planes.

is the tx/rx a piece of junk and therefor not a good idea to get it in a RTF (or not get it at all)?

it a 1300mah battery enough?

I saw the sky surfer pro as well and looks to almost the same plane except slightly larger and better electronics with a larger battery, but its also $80 more, is it worth it?

Ive seen older threads saying that bananahobby is a terrible company and to not deal with them, but all the threads were 5+ years old, have they cleaned up their act at all? or should I not even consider.

here it is;

Not sure where you're reading but it doesn't take much research to see that, at least IMO, the status quo of BH has not changed significantly in the last few years....

A lottery ticket just might have a much happier outcome......

ha, alright thats kinda what i needed to hear to solidify my decision. I just dont want to be screwed over right about now. Im looking for a really durable plane that wont be needing to be fixed up alot, especially over product defects.

But here it is again (hopefully it works this time)

It is surprising that they didn't have a landing gear for it a long time ago.

I decided on a monowheel because I want to fly it FPV and figure with a conventional gear I am too likely to catch the gear and flip it.

While we're at it, how about a RC4Y with factory floats? Interesting details on this one too: enclosed motor pod and prop, plywood internal frame, landing gear....

Interesting find, but I question it's necessity. I'm sure some folks would like it for where they fly, but I have a hard time putting "standard" landing gear on what is essentially a powered glider. Where I fly most times, the gear and wheels on this plane, or similar ones like my Ver. 1.0 Bixler, would just be a sticking point on landings with plenty of unnecessary nose overs. I always will hand launch these birds, so won't be ordering the gear, although it is an interesting find.

I am curious what the CG for the Bix 1.1 should be or what people are flying with: the manual says on the spar 71mm but a lot of information on the Skysurfer/Bixler says 60mm.

In my experience (with 3 SkyS's), 60mm=stable flyer. 70mm-A bit more aerobatic. Your choice. 60mm is the safest.

The stock prop on my skysurfer v4 decided to come apart the other day on take off, it has never had any kind of damage so i think it just finally fatigued from vibration. I replaced it with the APC e6X4 and i am totally impressed. I had read about it in the recommendations, but have never got around to getting one. Defiantly a must do upgrade for anyone who hasnt done it yet. Best $4.00 i have spent on this plane.

Wish I could see that as a standalone, and not mounted to the plane - not sure what it really looks like - does it have the barrel for fitting into the motor's "cylinder" molded into the plane? The price is sure right!
