Lipo problem at the local Fedex warehouse!

the explosion appears to have been caused by lithium batteries that made contact and touched off an explosion

Oh man I hope this doesn't cause others to crack down on my HK orders!

most exalted one
I got one envelope from HK with a loose Lipo. Most other vendors put them in a box and separate them with individual bubble pack so they should normally be fine.
Hopefully they realize most do the shipping in a reasonable manner.

When was the last time that you actually heard a lipo go BOOM, not WOOSH? Not to mention the fact that an employee said he smelled burnt gunpowder. I give the "official" story a 50-50 that someone is lying.

I doubt that anyone actually lied, but witnesses are notoriously inaccurate. I was once in a place that was robbed at gunpoint. Hearing some of the stories that people told the police afterwards was AMAZING;
"He leaned on the counter right here when he took the money from my hand, so there should be fingerprints"
"So he put the gun down to take the money"
"No he was still holding the gun"
"so he had the gun in one hand, took the money from you with the other hand, and leaned on the counter with the other hand?".
They dusted for prints anyway, but they didn't find any, of course.

The box was no doubt sealed, and there would have been a POP when it blew open, maybe even a little boom, then the place filled up with smoke. Of course there was no gunpowder, but most people probable wouldn't know what a burning lipo smell like.

Sounds like someone had a batch of raw lipo cells being mailed to another person.
They just tossed them into a box without doing something to separate them. Then all the jostling and being tossed about caused a couple to touch and sort out.

The article says that it was Lithium batteries. Lithium Ion maybe? Lithium Ion cells in cylindrical metalic casings?

"Lithium batteries" "Batteries and wires seen in the box"

It will be a wonder if the media ever gets the story straight!

I'm sure whatever caused it, it will probably cause us users some problems. I found this on RCG with FedEx saying it was NiCads. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/htm...yndication=rss

Whoops, this was supposed to go elsewhere. Duhhhhh
