1917 Curtiss Flying Boat

I saw this plane today in the lobby of a Manhattan office building. It will be auctioned this week.

That's amazing! Can you imagine flying something with a V8 over your head (on 2x4s!!!!)? Crazy.

They got mad when I climbed aboard and tried to fire her up. I am not going to buy a plane without running the engine first.

Agreed. I think I had enough room for a circuit around the atrium. Sticking the landing on the dolly would have been money.

Even better, just straight exhaust stacks, no mufflers.
I bet at 1,000 RPMs it sounds pretty sweet though.

As a bonus, if the radiator leaks you get a scalding hot shower while you fly.

No in-flight movies then.
Well at least it's a pusher prop so if you happen to hit a duck or goose on the lake you might not get bathed in blood and guts.
