just had a crazy thought... maybe Ducati could bring Carlos Checa and his 1198 across... because their production based super bike sure looks a whole better than their motogp machine...

When Stoner rode the Ducati it never looked settled eigther, the thing was always on the move, under brakes, into the turns, through the turns, it would have this little buck at the apex where it seemed everything had caught back up with itself and the wheels would come back inline... and then as soon as he cracked the throttle it would be off squirming it's way down the road again...

Ever since the 800cc days the Ducati has looked pretty aggresive... But they have all the right people in place now, so even if the 800cc doesn't get much better, the 2012 1000cc bike should be pretty flash...

that'd be cool if we can see Checa do a 'Bayliss'.

although in 2006 the wildcard ride was a reward from Ducati to Bayliss for winning the SBK title. this year however if for some unfortunate reason Checa throws away the SBK title he'd have to ride the GP11 as punishment.

I would pretty much write off this year as a development year for Ducati anyway. Sure they want to win and be more competitive but honestly it looks to me like they are looking forward to next year the new bike and rules. There isnt much point in perfecting this bike when its going to sit in a museum next year. It makes more sense to use it as a laboratory for concepts and testing for next year.
The other bikes have been in development for some time and this year is the peak of their evolution so it makes sense they are at the front.

He's a good dude... But surely not completely straight there... Couldn't quite see what sort of can he was holding...

Very funny...

Then he rode a GP bike the day after. He has talent that's for sure.

Don't forget it's Assen this weekend so the race is on SATURDAY.

It's also forecast for rain for the whole event. Good news for Colin and Cal.

I wonder if Casey has got some decent waterproof gear this time after saying he was freezing at Silverstone? With the cash he should have made I would have thought he could afford some.

Interesting re reading the FIM rules page 62:

Carbon brakes will be permitted in MotoGP at least until the end of the

Steel discs in 2013? Backwards step?

Stupid cost saving measures again...
You know these series, F1 & Moto GP, are supposed to be no expense spared design what you can within limited rules and go nuts. Now its getting closer and closer to cookie cutter spec racing, restrictor plate racing type of classes. I realy dont approve of this. I want to see cutting edge tech and out of the box ideas go round the track not spec racing.

Anyway, thats my rant, looking forward to rainy Assen!

I just read a bit about the "claiming rule"... In short it's something like this...

If a privateer team steps onto the podium using a production based motor (of which they're allowed 12 for the season), then one of the factory teams is able to "claim" that motor (for a cost of 20k euro), ohh... The other privateer teams don't have the option to "claim" this motor, only the factory teams... And they can only "claim" one engine, per factory, per team...

Sorta feels like... "yeah... Well... If you beat me, I'm just gunna take your engine... And then you can't beat no more... Ner ninny ner ner..." sounds like what my brother and I would do to each other with our slot cars as kids... Well still now even...

So if a privateer manages to go well... They're just gunna chop him down... Hmmm could be good for the racing spectacle... But not what the pinnacle of motorcycle racing is really about...

the rule actually makes sense. i read the logic behind it somewhere. it is to discourage the factory teams from supplying special engines to the crt teams. because if they do then a rival factory could claim that engine. pretty clever i think.

Someone REEEAAAALLY Needs to sit down and talk to Simoncelli about a little patience. He made a clean move but the tires wasn't up to temp. With his pace he could have easily gotten himself a podium finish. He is becoming his own biggest competitor. Oh boy Lorenzo wiill be crying about this one.
